FARM EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

Haz-Walds Farms LLC is a family owned operation that encompasses roughly 2000 acres of grain and potato production including storage and maintenance facilities. We pride ourselves on running a progressive farm operation that focuses on quality. We have an amazing work environment and a team made up of forward-thinking, driven individuals. This role will report to the General Manager and will be a key role within the organization.

As a Farm Equipment Manager you will be operating agriculture and heavy equipment as well as performing equipment maintenance for a fleet of over 30 vehicles.

This position is for you if:

You have a solid background in either agriculture equipment maintenance, diesel repair and or strongly relatable experience in equipment maintenance.

You can handle larger projects and are forward-thinking on what parts and equipment will be needed ahead of time.

You preferably have light fabrication/welding experience, low & high voltage electrical knowledge, and strong diesel and hydraulic experience.

You dont mind putting in the longer hours during peak season.

Are detail oriented and understand how the choices made in the off season influence the overall farms success for the year

Compensation will be based on experience and competitive ($14-$22/hr). Holiday pay is provided along with retirement benefits and performance bonuses. Healthcare stipend may be available for the right candidate. With regular reviews, there is room to grow in both salary and responsibility in this position.

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of mechanical experience

Minimum 5 years of agricultural experience

Responsibilities:

Maintain and ensure proper inventory; order parts and supplies as needed while remaining within budget provided.

Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment, trucks and implements both in the field and in the shop.

Conduct routine servicing of equipment both independently and with the team.

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment

Excellent observation, analysis and organization abilities

Experience working with one or more of the following crops is a major plus: potatoes, corn, soybeans

Maintain a clean and organized shop and work area.

Be flexible with the changing demands from the day especially during the busy season.

Operate (mostly John Deere) farm equipment including tractors, planters, and harvesters during slow times in the shop

Assist with the grain elevator loading/unloading trucks, general maintenance, drying grain

Follow all required safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment

Communicate with the owners on ideas for improvement

Be willing to assist in all areas of the operation depending on the need for the season

Work longer hours and days during peak seasons

Required license or certification:

CDL (preferred)

Valid drivers license

Working Conditions:

Physical

Continuous sitting or standing when performing farm duties. Frequent walking. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Continuous use of hands and manual dexterity in repetitive tasks such as simple grasping, twisting/turning of wrists; finger dexterity to perform various maintenance data collection, typing, maintain farm equipment. Continuous speaking and hearing for interactions with management and coworkers. Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or more for normal daily use in operating farm equipment and for computer tasks. Static strength the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.

Mental

Continuous problem solving on routine matters. Frequent attention to detail. Continuous performance of basic numeric calculations, as well as writing, reading, comparing, and analyzing. Deductive reasoning, continuous alertness, precision, and concentration to ensure accuracy of work.

Environmental

Exposed to potentially hazardous, conditions; weather, chemical, or slippery conditions of work area.
