The Observability Product Owner will oversee and lead technical support staff for key infrastructure monitoring platforms and processes. To work with Infrastructure teams to develop and execute maturity roadmap for ongoing improvements to monitoring capabilities.

This team will continue to play a key role in helping to enable Vanguard's Cloud journey and provides an opportunity for broad leadership impact.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manages and leads staff. Provides guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hires, evaluates and counsels personnel. Follows corporate disciplinary procedures per established Vanguard standards as required.
  • Sets challenging performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback, and recommends wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures. Influences short- and long-range strategies to meet department, divisional and corporate objectives.
  • Develops strong working relationships with internal clients and peers. Coordinates major deliverables and activities across teams.
  • Communicates and drives continuous improvement of key performance, quality and client satisfaction metrics.
  • Ensures high availability of critical business systems. Provide escalation support to operational teams.
  • Owns and maintains strong control environment to manage operational risks and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with architecture team to develop and maintain standards for infrastructure technologies. Works closely with the IT management team and business units to ensure alignment with the company's objectives. Coordinates activities and interacts extensively across department lines.
  • Manages the ongoing performance of IT vendor products and services, including contracting/consulting resources and managed services.
  • Manages expenses and ensures department operates within budgetary guidelines.
  • Ensures staff complies with IT policies and procedures, especially those for quality, productivity, service levels and architecture standards that enable the team to meet established project milestones. Ensures staff complies with all IT Security and Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Maintains expertise and awareness of industry trends and technologies, recommending timely adjustments to strategies as appropriate.
  • Manages special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience designing/supporting IT Systems with 2 years management experience preferred.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead high performing teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including interviewing and presentation skills.
  • Strong relationship management, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Broad knowledge of the financial services industry.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and/or projects concurrently.
  • Flexibility, strong decision-making skills and effective time management skills.
  • Proven ability to work with attention to detail under tight time constraints.
