Focuses on architecting, building, deploying and stabilizing code, services, systems and tools. Drives standardization and service-focused instrumentation. Provides subject matter expertise. Resolves break/fix scenarios, engaging broader teams as necessary and partners/leads vendors and regions to achieve continuous improvement. Contributes to command and control related activities focused on restoration of complex outages, communication across Comcast and rapid restoration. Works with and directly leads external vendors, third parties and associated agencies, when necessary, to address issues across the infrastructure. May participate on 24/7 on-call rotation.Job Description

Core Responsibilities
  • Develops solutions for routine-to-moderate systems engineering problems. Utilizes time management and project management skills to resolve issues in a timely and organized manner, effectively communicating necessary information.
  • Operating System & Disk Management responsibilities (if applicable): May set up a server from scratch, which may include creation of disk partitions. Comfortable with one or more of: Linux, Windows Server, HP-UX, Solaris, VOS, or Guardian. Performs basic file manipulation tasks, such as copying, removing, editing. Sets up and modifies user accounts and basic OS configuration files. Monitors basic system metrics (CPU, memory, web server hits etc.) Familiar with task automation and job control. Follows written directions on setting up logical volumes (e.g. SVM, VERITAS) and RAID devices.
  • Database Platform responsibilities (if applicable): May employ basic working knowledge of database concepts, availability, performance, usage and configuration. Performs database software installation, upgrades, patching, disk initialization and database creation for clustered and non-clustered servers. Manages database objects and user accounts. Participates in 24/7 on-call rotation. Performs database backups. Tunes SQL. Sets up simple replications.
  • Storage and Back-up responsibilities (if applicable): May employ working knowledge of core storage platforms. Possesses basic understanding of storage concepts, availability, performance, usage and configuration. Performs Array/SAN software installation, upgrades, patching and disk initialization.
  • Scripting and Development responsibilities (if applicable): May perform Basic software development in at least one modern language. Creates small scripts based on clear requirements and existing architecture/design. Reads, understands and edits existing code.
  • Networking responsibilities (if applicable): Has basic familiarity with how computers communicate over TCP/IP. Performs basic troubleshooting using traceroute, ping and similar tools. Configures a server's network connection, including default route, netmask etc. and sets up network and OS level services such as SSHD, XINETD.
  • Application Technologies (Web Servers, J2EE, Applications Servers) (if applicable): Performs basic application setup. Uses available toolsets to configure and manage applications. Performs basic application level troubleshooting.
  • Participates in calls and assigned tasks to handle crisis management and troubleshooting.
  • Uses established tools to track all production changes. Performs brief quality verification after installation. Escalates on questionable installs if there is potential to impact the service and/or customers/partners.
  • Monitors metrics for his/her respective application and systems. Sets up basic metrics collections for system quality, reporting and other uses.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 stack of online services is preferred
  • An understanding and functional knowledge to resolve break/fix scenarios
  • Readiness to engage broader teams, partners, and vendors to achieve continuous improvement
  • Operational support of Active Directory and AzureAD in a hybrid environment is a plus
  • Microsoft PowerShell scripting and Graph developer platform a plus
  • Knowledgeable of Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) and mail flow solutions
  • Centralized administration and delegation of authority
  • Documentation skills for configuration, change and incident management
  • Understanding of service monitoring solutions and concepts
  • Familiarity with network technologies
  • DNS-based naming and IPv6 on Windows Servers
