SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Principal Technologist (Cloud Monitoring Portfolio) provides End-to-End Observability and Alerting solutions for Amtrak IT Applications providing visibility and insights into all tiers and components deployed in a multi-tier hybrid IT environment comprising IaaS(AWS, Azure), PaaS(Mulesoft, Salesforce, etc.,), SaaS, and on-premises data center. Also provides operations and maintenance (O&M) support for end-users, applications, infrastructure, platforms, or network services, serving as an escalation point for Cloud Monitoring portfolio. When involved with a project team, acts in a consultative manner and provides technical subject matter expertise, system design, administration, and technical support. Works on tasks and projects or supports issues that involve a moderate to high degree of risk or may impact enterprise-wide performance and makes use of the individual's high level of knowledge within one or more areas of specialty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent plus 7+ years of relevant work experience or 9+ years of relevant technical experience, preferably with substantial experience in a project leadership or Subject Matter Expert capacity, required to satisfy education and experience requirements.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated.
  • Must possess experience in Enterprise Observability platform tools and technologies with the following skill level:
    • ELK stack - Expert level
    • AppDynamics - Mid-level
    • SignalFX- Mid-level
    • AWS Managed Kafka or Confluent Cloud - Mid to Expert level
    • Azure Monitoring - Familiarity
    • AWS Cloud Platform - Entry to mid-level
    • Advanced Knowledge of enterprise scale Hybrid IT Infrastructure, Platforms and Applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
  • This role requires working outside normal business hours on occasion.
  • Researches and analyzes technologies in Enterprise Observability - Monitoring & Event Management. Evaluates and may recommend new products or tools for the organization. Makes recommendations and influences long-term technology strategy and planning for multiple business units.
  • Responsible for designing the framework and implementation of end-to-end observability service - monitoring, log analytics, transaction tracing &analytics and visualization services.
  • Works with service providers to ensure that their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise strategy and architecture.
  • Designs innovative solutions using new technologies. Brainstorms possible solutions and evaluates alternatives against decision criteria. Recommends short-term alternatives when appropriate. Proposes designs at key milestone events.
  • May lead team responsible for the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations, development personnel or service provider personnel. Works with vendors during the problem resolution process as needed.
  • Assists and/or may lead in the development and analysis of source selection strategies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or other related eld plus 9+ years of experience
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Observability tools such as Datadog and Dynatrace.
  • Working experience utilizing the ITIL Framework for Incident, Change, Problem, and Release Management.
