Description

SAIC is seeking an

Engineering Technician III to support the

Naval Undersea Warfare Center MK 695 Torpedo System Test Set program in Newport, RI.

This position does have a 25% travel requirement CONUS and OCONUS and will require a passport.

The candidate will be working with a multi-disciplinary team focused on the fabrication and repair of MK 695 Torpedo System Test Set components and systems. Responsibilities include:
  • Providing logistics and technical support during engineering investigations and providing support for engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype systems, experimental design circuitry, or specialized test equipment.
  • Tasking which will require following government drawings, schematic diagrams, and wire run lists for fabrication of assemblies.
  • Candidate will be expected to travel both in and outside the United States to assist in troubleshooting and determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions with systems; responsibilities will include performing repairs, fabrication, modification and installation of electrical wiring harnesses, cables, wires, wiring assemblies and associated parts.
  • Candidate should be experienced in performing connector pin crimping, soldering, cabling and chassis wiring.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated, accountable, and present themselves professionally in front of customers and peers.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of an associate's degree and three (3) years of relevant experience or a high school diploma and five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of / work experience with the MK 695 Torpedo System Test Set.
  • Proficient Soldering skills, through-hole and solder cup connectors.
  • Ability to fabricate wire harnesses from government electrical schematics, drawings, and run lists.
  • Ability to create, build, assembly, modify and/or repair prototypes with minimal direction or intervention.
  • J-STD-001 solder and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
  • Must have the ability to obtain, maintain, and/or transfer SECRET clearance.
  • U.S. Passport required.

Desired:
  • Organization and planning for production effort including kitting, part selection, developing Bills of Materials, and working with other technicians to break up work and assist in production effort.
  • Assist in updating electrical schematics and assembly drawings when required to document as-built configurations or propose changes.
  • Some computer skills including basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word in order to document work and read wire lists.
