We seek a home healthcare aide to join our team of 4 private aides who help our parents. $20/hr. (your choice of on or off the books) East Side of Providence. They have aides from 8am to 6pm every day. Our parents take care of themselves physically pretty wellfeed themselves, dress themselves, talk on the phone, take walks, etc. and are social but they are forgetful and need lots of guidance and help. We are looking for someone who can substitute during the day and who can drive my parents to concerts and other evening events 2-3 times each month. Currently, there is need for one or more shifts a week for either subbing (4-5 hour shift) or an evening event, and many more hours are possible for the right person

Our goal is to keep our parents safe and happy in their independent living situation (apartment in a nice retirement home).

Details of their situation:

Our father is 88 and diabetic and at risk for falling and you must make sure he uses walker and help him in and out of car. He is confused parts of each day but not all the time and it takes patience to understand him and what he wants. He needs some help with his urine bag.

Our mother is 81 and has moderate stage Alzheimers, repeats questions, and needs gentle reminding and guidanceshe forgets things very quickly and loses track of what is going on. She is cheerful, positive, and social and likes to dance around the apartment. She has lots of energy and likes to get out and about and see people and talk to them. Neither of them can be left alone.

They are retired professors and live in a very nice independent living apartment in a retirement community off Blackstone Boulevard on the East Side.

Depending on the time of day, you would:

Help our father record his blood sugar readings and monitor his insulin injections

Make sure they both take their medications

Help them to maintain their social life with other residents from the retirement home and with occasional former colleagues

Prevent them from overwhelming the front desk with requests and phone calls.

Drive them (supermarket, CVS, occasionally doctor, other errands, to interesting places”gardens or parks or waterfor short walks)

Make sure they are safe on walks they take

Make sure our father snacks for his diabetes and drinks lots of water

Listen to our mother play piano

Prevent telemarketers from taking advantage of them

Help them keep track of events (dinner plans they have with other couples or after dinner activities at their building)

Help with technology (phones and cellphones as needed) and other things around the house

Fill out a checklist and text a picture of it to us every day about what you did and how our parents are doing.
