We are currently hiring custodians for varying shifts from 7-3pm, 3 pm-11pm OR 11 pm to 7 am
Performs custodial work required for the routine cleaning and upkeep of buildings.
Typical Duties
Wet mops, dust mops, washes floors, scrubs shower stall walls and floors, fixtures and other surfaces in bathrooms, including all hand basins, urinals, mirrors, partitions, shelves and other chrome fixtures and similar equipment. Replenishes supplies of soap, paper hand towels, sanitary napkins and bags, and replaces shower curtains as needed.
Vacuums and shampoos rugs.
Strips, washes, buffs, and finishes floors in corridors in all University buildings.
Moves furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
Cleans and washes blackboards and chalk rails as directed. Cleans erasers.
Make beds in dormitories and prepares rooms for occupancy.
Dusts and cleans heating ventilation grills and furniture. Makes beds, washes walls and spot washes.
Sweeps and shovels snow, debris, and cigarette butts from all exterior steps, patios and terraces the width of the door up to the main walk and spaces adjacent to the building.
Removes student's wastebaskets and debris from corridors and place in containers and remove to storage area. Empties out rubbish from kitchens, laundry, bathrooms, lounges and offices.
Removes recyclable materials to recycling area, separates as necessary contaminated materials from the recyclables, and then removes to sidewalk for pick ups.
Removes from building full rubbish containers of debris to designated areas on sidewalk to be picked up by assigned rubbish removal trucking company. Returns empty containers following pick up. Washes containers inside and outside.
Inspects exterior and interior of building for broken windows, damaged window shades and foreign objects on window sills or misuse of furniture, fire extinguishers and other University property.
Writes Service Orders for all damages, the need for grounds cleaning, malfunctions and needed repairs and reports same to Supervisor.
Reports or calls in all emergencies at once, such as fire, breaking and entering, broken water pipes or steps, etc.
Washes and cleans interior and some exterior windows.
Replaces burned out electric lamps in rooms, corridors, and stairways up to 12 feet.
Sets up and removes furniture and equipment required for special events.
Observes safety rules and precautions.
Maintains clean work/storage area.
Cleans equipment after use.
Reports any missing or damaged fire extinguishers.
Completes Stock Issue Slips for Supervisor's approval for supply orders.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required
Must be able to read and interpret instructions, service orders, and labels on chemical supplies.
Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted.
Must be able to climb and work from ladders at heights up to 12 feet.
Must have the physical ability to walk throughout the campus and to climb stairs throughout the duration of the shift.
Must be able to use buffing machines, extractors and other equipment associated with housekeeping.
Experience Required
Six months' related experience or demonstrated ability to perform custodial duties.
