Asphalt Equipment Operator – AE0919Sanders Brother Construction is currently seeking an Asphalt Equipment Operator to support our Charleston, SC area asphalt construction projects. The Asphalt Equipment Operator will play a key role in the company’s continued success. Role And ResponsibilitiesThe Asphalt Equipment Operator will be responsible for control and operation of one or more types of asphalt paving equipment.
Ability to perform all duties required of Asphalt Laborer and Operator I which may require use of shovel, lute and/or other duties assigned by supervisor.
Operates asphalt paver machine, breakdown roller, transfer machine, backhoe, water truck, and widener.
Manipulates hand or foot levers to control movements of paving machine that spreads and levels asphalt on roadways and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, etc.,
Turns hand-wheels to raise or lower screeds, regulates width of screed
May perform other related duties, such as installing or removing automatic devices, grade log or other accessories associated with the machinery.
The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
Keep company vehicle, tools and equipment clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns.
Comply with all SBCC policies, procedures and safety requirements
Qualifications and Education Requirements
1-3 years of equipment operation (Spreader, roller, transfer machine backhoe, water truck, tack truck, widener, lute and broom truck) and related asphalt & road construction experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
Must meet SBCC's employment standards with regards to background checks.
The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Flexible availability to include overtime, possible weekends and nights.
Work environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.
