Job Description

Analyze North American and foreign markets to determine strategic suppliers and sourcing strategy for selected commodities in consideration of technical capabilities, quality, source, reliability, and process improvements.

Analyze quotations received, recommend, and select suppliers. Interface with and manage all commercial aspects of assigned supplier relations including, but not limited to, supplier agreements, monitoring overall supplier performance, resolving invoice/price discrepancies, supporting escalation of LOG and Quality issues, and supplier development/follow-up.

Review existing, and where necessary, establish new contracts: including planning and completing annual price negotiations for responsible commodities to achieve cost savings goals. Create and release purchase orders and maintain supplier and part number data in SAP. Review all foreign commodities and find NAFTA or global sources based on lowest total cost - taking into consideration quality, reliability of source and urgency of need.

Buyer will study market trends and suppliers, recommending sources of supply and will work closely with Project Purchasing in various plants to identity and realize potential savings projects, as well as participate in the annual business planning process for responsible commodities. Integrated member of a worldwide commodity team - domestic and international travel will be required (will include travel to face-to-face meetings in Europe).

Perform other essential and related peripheral duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Engineering or related field required.

4+ years purchasing experience (direct materials) in a fast paced manufacturing setting required, including experience in the purchase of components such as valves, pumps, raw materials, machined/turned parts, aluminum die castings and extrusions, stampings,rubberparts, plastics, electronics, motors, sintered parts, etc.

Must be able to read engineering drawings. Must be proactive, thorough, detail oriented, self-motivated, able to work independently, a strong team player, and someone who takes initiative.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Power Point.) MRP II experience (i.e. SAP, MFG/PRO, etc.)
