Pharmacy (CMOP) and participates in the technical product dispensing
and pharmacy operational support functions.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesMajor duties include, but are not limited to:a. As required and/or assigned, the incumbent is expected to cover
duties of the GS 5 pharmacy technician.
b. Performs substantially in repacking bulk pharmaceuticals.
Repackages tablets, capsules, etc., into specified quantities and
various sized containers. These operations consist of taking
pharmaceuticals from bulk stock containers, filling smaller
containers, and making up applying appropriate labels. This work
requires skill in operation of pharmacy tablet and capsule counting
and labeling machines with attention to checking the information on
the labels to ascertain that all pertinent information is correct.
Performs quality checks and appropriate mathematical calculations as
outlined in the standard operating procedures.
c. Replenishes pharmacy stock in automated pharmacy equipment,
utilizing the computer inventory system. Rotates stock using FIFO
(First-In, First-Out) and checks unusual conditions, such as
discoloration referring such information to a supervisor/lead.
d. Receives supplies, checks for shortages, tampering, breakage,
deterioration, or expiration.
e. Accurately interprets and correctly fills prescription in all
areas ofCMOP.
f. Monitors and suggests changes for the improvement ofworkflow,
work methods and priorities.
g. Responsible for automatic replenishment of selected
pharmaceutical items needed on a regular basis in specialty zones
and control substance areas.
h. Interacts with logistics personnel lo maintain efficient
inventory flow of pharmaceutical needs.
i. Gathers workload data to supervisor/lead in a timely manner.
j. Gathers CMOP operations data as needed for supervisory/lead
and/or Quality Assurance.
k. Assists with gathering and monitoring workload data for
projecting staffing needs.
I. Witnesses and records the preparation of drugs for destruction by
a third party company.
m. May represent an area as requested at Technical Advisory Group
Meetings, technician educational programs, conference calls, task
force groups, etc.
n. Participates in and supports the use of automated dispensing
systems which improve productivity, increases efficiency and assists
efforts in ensuring timeliness of processing. This includes the
restocking of automation, the monitoring of the automation,
correcting or indexing out-of-sequence errors, troubleshooting
process, and minor maintenance (i.e., daily cleaning, reset,
updating, etc.).
o. Documents and notifies supervisory/lead of downtime problems,
actions and resolutions for all interruptions in production that
exceed 10 minutes.
p. Assists with basic and complex inventorying activities and checks
for outdated or unsuitable quality of pharmaceuticals.
q. Performs cycle counts to ensure proper inventory is on-hand.
r. Participates in regularly scheduled inventories as assigned.
s. Provides training for technicians, pharmacists, inspectors,
students, etc.
t. Performs final review of products (medications) stocked for the
TCA (Table Capsule Automation) and UUA (Unit of Use Automation).
u. Follows written instructions with aseptic techniques for
hazardous material handling such as oncology agents.
v. Complies with Safety, Occupational and Health Standards and
Policies.
w. Performs all duties of the GS-5 Pharmacy Technician.
x. Performs other duties as assigned.Work Schedule:

must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. In addition, the
candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the
potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an
asterisk ():(b) Certification: PTCB certification is required at this grade
level and above.(c) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g.,
troubleshoot operational problems and refer for appropriate
action.
2. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment.
3. Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for
compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such
as oncology agents.
4. Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic
technique for routine sterile products.
5. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in
specialized areas such as emergency carts.
6. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated
by the ability to input prescriptions and medication orders.(d) Assignments: Pharmacy technicians may be assigned to any
area of the pharmacy including expanded distributive function
assignments; for example assignment as team leaders for specific
process improvement teams involving technical areas or performing
more highly complex duties including preparation of oncology agents
for clinical pharmacy specialists. For all assignments above the
full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of
significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety,
and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time.Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a highly mechanized
warehouse setting around production machinery. Moderate noise and
traffic requires attention to safety. Some work areas involve a
moderate risk requiring exercise of safety precautions when
operating or working around the automated equipment (i.e.,
accumulators, moving belts, etc.). Wearing gloves is mandatory when
handling specific medications. The work requires regular and
recurring physical exertion, involving standing for prolonged
periods of time, lifting/carrying of pharmaceutical supplies
weighing up to 50 lbs and bending/stooping/reaching.Selected applicants will be required to complete an online
