Job ResponsibilitiesUnder close supervision, helps skilled trades workers perform repairs, maintenance, or construction of State Maintained Roadways. Trains in the operation of motorized equipment used in the maintenance of highways and bridges or the movement of materials, supplies and equipment. May independently perform maintenance tasks requiring a limited degree of professional skill. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Trains in the operation of a rotary tractor mower, boom mowers, tilting frame slope mowers, bat wing mowers and medium duty equipment such as a bucket truck. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance. Trains in the operation of CDL vehicles such as a 5 yard standard dump truck, and flatbed trucks for hauling materials such as stone, dirt, construction materials and debris. Performs duties using manual labor in such maintenance task as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, and laying sideline/cross line pipe for driveways and drainage structures. Operates chain saw in the removal of trees from state maintained roadways and sight distance problems on road rights-of-way. Conducts and documents pre-operation vehicle or equipment inspection. Removes litter, debris and dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way. Trains in the operation of a standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.Minimum and Additional RequirementsA 10th grade education; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.A valid driver's license is required. (Note): This position requires a class B commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment.
