Job ResponsibilitiesConducts and coordinates the planting, cultivation and manipulation of the dove fields on Oak Lea WMA and Santee Dam WMA dove fields. This includes scheduling and implementing timely planting and manipulation of crops in order to ensure successful dove hunts and quality opportunity for the public. Plants and maintains the Hickory Top WMA impoundment. Maintains the roads and dikes in the waterfowl area and assists with water level management. Assists with the planting and other duties on Santee Cooper WMA. Conducts public hunts as needed. Assists and conducts the collection of field data and conducts wildlife surveys in a professional manner. This includes but is not limited to: furbearer routes, quail call routes, dove/duck trapping and banding, deer spotlight surveys, dove wing collection and aging, collection of deer and turkey data cards, biological collection of deer data including age, weight, and other samples, wood duck box data collection and maintenance, and accurately answering hunter questions during public hunts. Plans, coordinates and supervises activities for hourly and volunteer employees as needed. Assists with other areas within the region to include wildlife management and habitat management activities.Minimum and Additional RequirementsA high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work or an associate degree in the technical sciences.Ability to obtain a CDL, pesticide applicators license, and prescribed fire certification. Ability to maintain a valid driver's license.Preferred QualificationsAbility to proficiently operate tractor and associated implements, work alone and lift heavy objects. Ability to accurately collect and record data. Ability to work some weekends along with early mornings and late evenings. Ability to communicate with the general public and coworkers with a positive attitude. Ability to make decisions in the absence of a supervisor. Ability to make minor equipment repairs and conduct preventative equipment maintenance.
