Job ResponsibilitiesUnder the guidelines provided by Regional Geologists (Coastal Plain and Piedmont) and the Chief Geologist, assists in day-to-day operations of externally funded mapping projects in the Coastal Plan and Piedmont regions. Under the guidelines provided by the Chief Geologist and the GIS Manager, assists with digital development of Coastal Plain and Piedmont geologic map data and map databases. Develops final map layouts and other derivative products. Assists with making cross sections, and uses lab results to write map unit descriptions. Assists in providing information to general public, consultants and scientific and technical personnel from industry, other government agencies or academic institutions. Helps maintain DNR and Geological Survey field equipment in operational condition at all times and ensures it can successfully pass inspection standards with or without notice.Minimum and Additional RequirementsA bachelor's degree in hydrology, geology or geological engineering.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of principles and practices of Coastal Plain or Piedmont geology, sedimentology or metamorphic petrology and structural geology, and stratigraphy. Skilled in field mapping, drilling operations, and quantitative sedimentary grain analyses. preferred computer skills in Windows OS and MS Office. ArcGIS and statistical software useful. Ability to work independently on mapping projects and laboratory analyses in a team environment.
