Matheson, a leading manufacturer, processor, retail sales and distributor of welding gases and supplies has the following opportunity available at our Rapid City, SD facility.Package Gas Driver 1OverviewPrimary Duty is a Cylinder Filler / Backup DriverDIVISION & UNIT OVERVIEW Matheson is a member of one of the world's largest suppliers of gases and gas handling equipment. Matheson is a premier supplier of Industrial, Specialty and Medical Gases, Welding and Safety Supplies, as well as Propane in bulk and cylinder form.POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for safely handling and filling gas products into liquid, medical and high-pressure gas cylinders in compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and meeting Matheson's standard operating procedures. This position reports directly to the Site Manager This position is also responsible for the transportation of materials in a safe and timely manner by applying knowledge for commercial driving regulations, and roads in the area. The professional driver will be responsible for driving to and from designated locations, verifying loads to shipping papers, maintaining records of duty status according to State and Federal Regulations, and performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Must present a professional business image to the public as well as fellow employees. Must possess a valid commercial Class B Drivers' License, Hazmat, Air Brake Endorsements, and Medical card; ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Fills all gas cylinders, high and low pressure, and liquid containers in accordance with safety procedures, qualityUnderstands hazards of various gases, size and contents of cylinders by reading and interpreting cylinder labels and the color-coding of tanks. Accurately labels cylinders.Comply with safety programs, OSHA, and all related rules, regulations, procedures which are applicable to this position's responsibilitiesMovement of cylinders as required in the plant. May be required to load and unload trucks.Completes all documentation and forms in compliance with company policy and FDA requirements during the fill process. Accurately and legibly ensures products are labeled properly, with current decals and lot numbers. Forms include daily production report, FDA log sheet, Label Verification form, Calibration form and Bulk log sheet.Tests all gases and documents results on compression log report accurately and legiblyComplies with all government and company standards relating to the safe handling of hazardous materials/cylinder gases.Maintains a neat, clean and orderly workplace through proper housekeeping proceduresMonitors and maintains sufficient stock to meet customer demandMonitors inventory of empty cylinders prepared and ready for filling.May be required to maintain cylinders and repair filling equipment, such as pigtails, fill hoses, valves and safeties.Sets tone for employees by good example through observation of the company's loss prevention policies and procedures.Adheres to all quality assurance policies and standardsReports accidents including near misses, unsafe acts or conditions and obeys safety rules.Perform other projects and duties as assigned. Transports cylinders to assigned internal and external customers in a timely and safety conscious manner. Stays within all posted speed limits and complies with all DOT and company safety policies and procedures.Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the vehicle. Maintains the vehicle in a clean and proper condition.Legibly completes driver log/trip reports on a daily basis.Responsible for accurate recording of cylinders/hard-goods transactions on customer delivery tickets and trip reports.Maintains good communications with supervisor and management especially safety and customer matters.Operates / Drives forklift truck as required for loading and unloading of product.Sets tone for employees by good example through observation of the company's Loss prevention policies and procedures. Reports accidents including near misses, unsafe acts or conditions and obeys safety rules.Uses effective time management tools in order to follow through on work commitments and scheduled deadlines associated with own job; obtains agreement of all stake-holders within a development program to identify issues, minimizes risks at an early stage, ensure safety, and on-time delivery.Participate as an active member of the local safety committee when assigned according to the rotation process.Perform other projects and duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEMinimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.Preferred knowledge/experience in gas, welding and safety supply industry or chemical industry preferred.Minimum one year experience in the gas/welding industry as a warehouse worker or a driver.Excellent customer service skillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong level of attention to detail.Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.Able to work flexible hours (within 2-3 hours of starting and quitting times).Ability to perform math functions and analysis as needed by the position.Ability to safely operate a forklift.Must be able to read and write and perform mathematical exercises of moderate complexity.Must be able to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.Must be able to push cart 200 + lb. cylinders and bend/lift 50+lb containers.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Mandatory must possess a valid commercial Class B Drivers' License, Hazmat, Air Brake Endorsements, and Medical card; Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.Must have previous commercial driving experience, or have graduated from an accredited commercial driving school.Minimum of one year road experience preferred with no previous moving violations for three years.Must be at least 21 years of age with an excellent driving record.Must be able to push cart 200 + lb. cylinders and bend/lift 50+lb containers.Must have the ability to read and write English language. Perform simple mathematical calculations.
