Job Title: Community Cat Coordinator

Job Classification: Full time, hourly, non-exempt

Job Relationships: Reports to Care and Placement Administrator

Job Summary: Reduce intake and length of stay of unowned community cats by diverting "Good Samaritans" with stray cats to spay/neuter services instead of intake, expediting shelter/neuter/return of cats entering the shelter and providing friendly, helpful education to the public, staff and volunteers to shift the culture of community cats overall.

Salary: $13/hour, non-exempt

Job Duties:

ž Serve as the primary voice for MAC on all things community cat and secure resources to educate and motivate staff, volunteers, and the public.

ž Block walking and public outreach, including staffing informational booths, meeting with Home Owners Associations, Neighborhood Associations, community leaders, elected officials and local media, as necessary.

ž Train MAC employees to educate the public about community cats. Create FAQs and scripts with clear, positive language to convey a uniform message across the organization.

ž Train all intake and triage staff to identify cats eligible for return to field as well as identify "red flag" cats for targeted TNR (Trap Neuter & Release).

ž Recruit, train, and oversee transport staff and volunteers returning community cats back to their habitat.

ž Collaborate with the in-house veterinary clinic to create an efficient process for spay/neuter of community cats.

ž Develop and implement shelter policies and protocols designed to instill understanding and use of best practices relating to community cats to shelter staff, city leadership, and public citizens.

ž Track data related to the program and report the progress, challenges and plan to overcome challenges on a regular basis.

ž Communicate and coordinate with local rescue and spay/neuter groups to maximize positive outcomes and minimize redundant efforts, including partnering on mass trapping projects.

ž Attend meetings and events with community leaders, elected officials and local media, as necessary.

ž Oversee CCP (Community Cat Program) supply inventory including the trap loan program.

ž Assist the Adoption Team with the Barn Cat Program.

ž Provide advice and support regarding colony management to colony caretakers, including referrals to community resources for companion animal needs.

ž Conducts special projects related to community-wide foster/rescue efforts; conducts regular meetings with rescue groups.

ž Field customer concerns related to the community cat program.

ž Other duties as assigned by the Care and Placement Administrator

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education/Experience: High school diploma is required. Interest in animal care and welfare. An outlook that is energetic, upbeat and positive. Experience interacting with the public.

Knowledge and Skills:

ž Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Must be able to relate and confer with the directors, managers and fellow staff members in a positive and constructive way; exercise good judgment when dealing with the public and when making decisions in the absence of a supervisor. The ideal person for this job is a team player, personable, professional, upbeat and energetic, takes the initiative, and uses tact and diplomacy.

ž Demonstrate an ability to make sound judgments, work independently or in a team setting while being faced with a fast-paced environment and demonstrate ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

ž Able to educate people in a variety of roles about the process of TNR in a clear and effective manner.

ž Knowledge and experience with feral cats and trapping cats, and knowledge about how to safely operate cat traps.

ž Accurate record-keeping and ability to provide monthly reports on various programs.

ž Experience in project management, with strong time management skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

ž Demonstrate written and verbal communications of a professional standard.

ž Support the mission of the McKamey Animal Center and be an effective representative the Center's position on issues.

ž Self-motivated to keep informed of, and clearly and accurately relay facts about, the Center's news, events, and informational material.

ž Knowledge of feline/animal health, care and welfare. Ability to work with felines/animals.

ž Strong feline/animal handling skills.

ž Attention to detail.

ž A "can do" team player attitude and willingness to go the extra mile.

ž Flexibility with job, schedules, and an understanding of the needs of the team. Enjoy handling a variety of tasks.

Other: Must be at least 21 years of age, valid Driver's License, insurable driving record, and current Tetanus vaccination.

Work Environment: Outside community field work using a company truck and lap top computer; Office setting with mobile or desk computer use up to 8 hours a day with regular breaks; Exposure to high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, and bites/scratches/aggressiveness/attacks when handling animals; Exposure to cleaning agents; Exposure to all weather conditions when outdoors; Sitting, bending, reaching, walking, running for up to 8 hours or more a day

Physical Activities: Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds with assistance; Able to work in extreme weather; Able to sit for extended periods of time working at a computer, doing repetitive typing, arm and hand motions; Willing and able to work varied hours and dates, including holidays, weekends, and late and early hours, as needed; Current driver's license and insurable driving record; Must be at least 21 years of age due to Motor Vehicle Insurance requirements; Ability to work in the presence of both cats and dogs, including large numbers of cats and dogs as in a shelter setting; Able to perform physical examinations on animals; animal restraint; handling syringes and needles.
