This position requires strategic and operational oversight of a team of underwriters and adherence to underwriting policies and standards with a focus on building a profitable book of business.Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

Partners closely with distribution and pricing peers to develop sustainable growth and underwriting strategies.

Responsible for assisting in the development of pricing targets for new business and renewal business and in communicating, measuring and adhering to targets.

Oversees assessment and issuance of standard and non-standard financial arrangement contracts.

Maintains balanced approach in growing the business with new sales and in retaining existing customers.

Hires, trains, coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.

Monitors and assesses competitors' rates, benefits, and financial arrangements.

Assists in the design, pricing and implementation of new products.

Leads key projects and partners with functional leaders across the organization.

Manages daily workflow and prioritization within a unit and ensures timely release of work.

Requirements

Requires a BA/BS in a related field; 7+ years of related underwriting experience including prior management experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

7+ years of group life and disability, preferably with a market leading carrier.

Must have deep group Life and Disability knowledge and expertise; experience from top market leaders strongly preferred.

Deep background in working with small group (under 100 members), midsize (100-500 members), Large Group (500-1000 members) and National (over 1000 members)).

Subject matter expertise in the national accounts segment (excess of 1000 lives) is strongly preferred.

Works collaboratively with distribution partners to develop relationships with key brokers and consultants.

CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA or other insurance related courses preferred.
