OverviewSafety Program Officer, Cumberland Medical CenterExempt - 80 hours per 2 week pay periodPosition Summary:The Safety Program Officer directs and implements safety programs in accordance with state, federal, and regulatory standards for Covenant Health facilities.Position Qualifications:Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree required. An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and directly-applicable professional-level work experience may be accepted in lieu of the bachelor’s degree requirement.Minimum Experience: Must understand regulatory standards relating to health and environmental needs including all aspects of the NFPA Life Safety Code. Excellent communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital staff.Licensure Requirement: Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.ResponsibilitiesPosition Accountabilities and Performance Criteria:

Serves as Safety Consultant in proper operation of the Facility Fire Alarm and Access Control Systems.

Develop and facilitate all safety training programs, including orientation and continuing education.

Chairs and directs efforts of Safety Committee.

Coordinate safety information with committee functions and staff.

Develop, implement and manage life safety management programs.

Develop, implement and manage emergency preparedness programs.

Develop and implement policies and procedures per the Joint Commission guidelines and regulatory standards.

Serves as a Safety Consultant in directing and implementing appropriate Safety Programs for Covenant Health.

Perform safety inspections per state and federal guidelines and prepare written documentation of inspections.

Investigate employee incidents/accidents and exposures, and document as needed and/or required.

Responsible for clerical duties to include documentation of regulatory compliance, policies and procedures, meeting minutes, safety investigations, and all forms of correspondence.

Oversee all aspects of hazardous materials and waste to meet local, state, and federal guidelines.

Develop and implement programs for FDA, OSHA, and EPA compliance.

Provide departmental safety in-services as requested by management.

Attends local meetings and serves on emergency planning groups.

Local travel required.

Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.
