Responsible for performing and reporting assigned laboratory tests in a prompt, efficient, and accurate manner in an assigned area of the laboratory. Must possess Clinical Lab Science degree certified by ASCP or equivalent as a Technologist. Under the direct supervision of the manager, supervisor or coordinator responsible for the assigned shift as scheduled. Incumbents are subject to overtime and call back by the department as designated by the hospital.Document and maintains records or preventive maintenance, and troubleshoots and takes appropriate steps to resolve malfunctions on assigned instruments.Prepare reagents, quality control, and calibrators according to established criteria and evaluate results of quality control and implements corrective action when indicated.Identifies problems that may affect test performance or test results and takes immediate corrective action.Evaluates and reports test results as instructed by test procedure or section procedure.Operates, calibrates, conducts performance checks, and maintains any clinical laboratory instrument or equipment.Performs and determines the accuracy of routine and special laboratory tests in designated sections of the laboratory.Reports problems to supervisory personnel and assists in resolving them.Performs, calculates, analyzes, interprets, and record valid results.Contributes to the positive work climate and overall team effort of the department.Pour-over and transport hazardous flammable waste (alcohols, xylene, and stains) to the hazardous waste drum collection area on the lab dock as needed.Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.Obtains specimens from patients for laboratory procedures.Assists in evaluating new instruments and in establishing maintenance protocols with approval of supervisor and pathologist.Assists in reviewing and writing policies, procedures, and preventive maintenance manuals assigned by supervisor and keeping them current.Inventories, recommends and submits orders, receives and stores supplies for assigned area.Instructs students and assists in the orientation and evaluation of new personnel as assigned.EDUCATION: Meets mandatory continuing education hours as required by the State of Tennessee and other mandatory in-services, training, proficiencies, and competencies Professional/Technical continuing education (independent study) of not less than 12 CE hours annually (as required by State of Tennessee licensure).LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:Skills and proficiency in the technical field of clinical laboratory science. Such proficiency is usually acquired through the completion of a clinical lab science program in an ASCP accredited school or the equivalent. B.S. or B.A. Degree (Degree must meet ASCP/NCA requirements).MT/CLS (ASCP) General or equivalent.
