Apply today and let’s grow together!General Summary: Oversees and directs the trailer maintenance function through a direct reporting relationship with all TMF Managers in all repair shops. Responsible for management of such essential functions as trailer, refrigeration units, and lift gate maintenance activities, safety, planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, contracting, training, trailer appearance and facilities management. Develops and communicates action plans for improvement and consistency among the operations. Participates in creating and implementation of company specific SOPs. Ensures compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and Company policies and regulations.

Monitors and evaluates the overall performance of the trailer fleet operation and equipment to ensure maximum performance is achieved.

Works closely with trailer maintenance managers and supervisors to coordinate preventative maintenance programs to ensure that fleet equipment is available and breakdowns are eliminated and maintenance costs are reduced.

Establish and implement programs to meet environmental regulations relating to fleet and fleet repair operations.

Identifies trailer maintenance department performance indicators and facilitate the implementation and communication of plans to track these indicators and make recommendations and develop plans for improvement.

Manages the budget process for trailer maintenance expenses in each trailer maintenance facility.

Collaborates with DC vice presidents and DC management to develop action plans to meet current and future outbound shipping requirements.

Reviews trailer maintenance facilities strategic goals and sets performance expectations for trailer fleet size and utilization.

Represents the Transportation Department in business relationships with outside vendors, contractors and other third parties.

Monitors facility compliance with DOT, EPA and OSHA standards.

Partners with Risk Management to represent the Trailer Maintenance Facilities in working with OSHA and DOT.

Thorough knowledge of power unit, trailer maintenance and refrigeration units.

Analytical skills and strong attention to detail.

Ability to read maintenance manuals, electrical schematic, and various diagrams.

Understanding of hydraulic systems, brakes, etc. with regards to trailers and yard tractors.

Comprehension of all facets of trailer maintenance, brake systems, lift gate repair, and tire management.

Thorough understanding of trailer and lift gate design and construction.

Experience with transportation equipment maintenance and repair that includes trailers, yard trucks, and rolling stock.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Computer skills: Current word processing and spreadsheet applications, and trailer maintenance management packages.

Competency to develop the required skill set of the facility manager and technicians.

Understanding of industry safety standards for commercial vehicles.

Work Experience/Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of experience plus 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in maintenance management for fleet facilities. Transport refrigerant experience preferred. Universal handling of refrigerants license preferred.Working Conditions:

Ability to work in severe weather conditions—both heat and cold

May be exposed to extreme heat and cold, including dry van trailers or refrigerator freezers and coolers for extended periods of time

Ability to walk long distances; and sit or stand for long periods of time.

Fast-paced environment.

Exposure to noise and heights.

Ability to adapt to heavy travel – up to 70% of work time on the road.
