STR was acquired in October 2019 as a division of CoStar Group, Inc., the leading provider of commercial real estate information, analytics and online marketplaces. STR is in the process of combining CoStar's largest and most up-to-date properties database with STR's global hospitality performance data, to give both real estate and hospitality customers a unique and powerful combined view of their local markets.

As a Senior SQL Developer, your primary responsibility it to help support and maintain the existing STR database environment and processes. A secondary responsibility is to assist with the migration and integration of STR and CoStar data models and applications. By maintaining strong partnerships with development teams and business stakeholders, you will be able to learn and support both the new and old data models and eventually become a source of data expertise that other teams can leverage.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Code, optimize, and debug database queries and store procedures in MS SQL Server
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth working knowledge of both the STR and CoStar data models and how they interact
  • Assist with data migration and integration projects between STR and CoStar
  • Partner with project teams to develop .NET business applications that interact with the databases, acting as database subject matter expert
  • Review SQL code written by application developers to ensure compliance to coding standards and best practices as well as maximum performance
  • Move database structures through multiple environments (DEV, QA, PROD) as the database progresses in the development lifecycle
  • Create SSIS ETL packages for data transformation, cleansing, and transfer; migrating them through environments for testing using Octopus Deploy
  • Use a GIT workflow and pull requests to submit code changes for review
  • Troubleshoot database problems that may arise: data issues, performance, replication, or operational
  • Participate in on-call support as needed to assist in troubleshooting database issues individually or through a team effort
  • Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend system modifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of experience with multiple aspects of MS SQL Server
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to QA and troubleshoot data issues
PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Desire to continually learn and explore new database technologies
  • Ability to work in cross-functional groups and lead collaborative engagements
  • Ability to complete milestones and work toward multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to translate business requirements into data model changes
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and gauge the potential impact of multiple solutions
  • Confidence in decision making and the ability to explain processes or choices
  • Experience in fast paced Agile Scrum environments
  • Analysis Services (SSAS) experience is a plus
  • AWS experience is a plus
