For more information, visit www.eastman.com.This posting is for a Heat Transfer Application Engineer in the Heat Transfer Fluids Technology group of the Specialty Fluids and Energy business located in Kingsport, Tennessee. The selected individual will support Eastman’s heat transfer fluid business by developing the tools and knowledge needed to differentiate the performance of Therminol and Marlotherm heat transfer fluids. The engineer should have an interest in developing into a company expert in the fields of heat transfer and fouling. Job Responsibilities: Develop and manage technical competencies in heat transfer, fouling, and corrosion. Employ the latest techniques and sound engineering principles to solve customer problems by working closely with the technical service team Manage laboratory work related to characterizing the engineering performance of heat transfer fluids. Evaluate/develop new technologies to characterize heat transfer fluids and lead efforts to implement them. Coordinate and lead technical work executed through university partnerships. Review and write laboratory test methods and technical reports. Participate on multi-functional teams to develop new products/processes and improve existing products/processes Perform economic calculations to understand the total cost of ownership of various heat transfer fluids to optimize for customers. Work closely with product development chemist to test potential new products (new base fluids, cleaners, additives) Assist manufacturing in solving technical challenges and executing plant trials to improve product quality, capacity and/or costQualifications: Required Degree: Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university Working engineering knowledge of heat transfer fundamentals. Background/specialization in fouling science is desirable. Experience with fluid characterization techniques (e.g. HLPS, DSC, thermal conductivity) is preferred. Ability to work as a part of a global team is necessary. Knowledge in computers, electronics, software logic, instrument troubleshooting and statistics desired. Should be an innovative and creative problem solver with strong scientific convictions and willing to take risks.
