In January of 2020, we established our corporate Product Development & Innovation center in Knoxville, TN. This center is made up of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, software developers, data scientists, data analysts, and cyber security specialists working together to develop cutting edge digital solutions. If you are a motivated self-starter who likes to solve complex problems, we're just what you're looking for. The Data Analyst position will be focused on developing rigorous data-driven analyses to estimate risk and return-on-investment metrics to inform client decisions. Projects will often support our U.S. federal government clients who are on the front lines of reducing negative impacts of both natural and man-made hazards to the American public. Analyses will involve critical thinking and use of a variety of statistical and machine learning techniques to clean often messy data and provide insights to decision makers. The ideal candidate is a team player, critical thinker, and problem solver who enjoys working in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This position will require moderate travel based on client and project need.

Responsibilities:
  • Translate customer needs and project tasking into individual, actionable next steps
  • Perform basic statistical analysis of datasets to generate insights
  • Develop and implement data extraction, transformation, and loading solutions
  • Develop and refine statistical and machine learning models for predictions
  • Develop and implement automation solutions for manually intensive data gathering and cleaning
  • Develop interactive dashboards to communicate results
  • Write reports/documentation summarizing your work
  • Present your work to small customer audiences
  • Contribute across multiple project teams

Required Skills:
  • 0 to 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience and capabilities with data science-related programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL)
  • Familiarity with data science tools (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, Stata)
  • Familiarity with enterprise data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlikview)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, economics, computer science, information management or statistics, or related technical field
  • U.S. citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret level clearance

Preferred Skills:
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience and capabilities (e.g. VBA, Query Editor/PowerQuery)

  • Unstructured data parsing experience
  • Data analyst certification
