Incumbent performs the full range of maintenance, repair and installation services in connection with industrial, electronic, electrical-electronic electro-hydraulic and electromechanical controls as contained on various equipment and systems. Involves Installation diagnosis, disassembly, preventive maintenance, overhaul, major repair, modification, adjustment, reassembly and calibration of a variety of associated equipment. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Performing a full range of duties in assembly, installation, repair, use of test equipment, theory of electronics, ability to use hand and power tools-electronic, troubleshooting, and ability to suggest and apply new methods. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Recommended: A diploma/certificate/degree from trade/tech school in EICM Technology; OR License of Master or Journeyman Electrician; OR QMED any rating, or QMED Electrician or QMED Electrician/Refrigerating Engineer. Physical EffortIncumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 40 pounds. Working ConditionsWork is usually performed inside in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Occasionally, work may be performed outside subject to extremes of weather. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrialareas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Incumbent is constantly exposed to the possibility of electrocution while working on AC and DC electrical systems. Incumbent is also exposed to drowning while working on the boat. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of burns or engine crankcase explosion while working near engines and generators and less serious cuts and bruises. Incumbent is required to observe safety precautions wear appropriate safety equipment and work in the safe manner to prevent injury to self and other workmen and to prevent property damage.EducationAdditional InformationMale applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program," or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). During the dredging season, typically May through November, all Hurley crew members, including this position, work a 15 days on/6 days off schedule, with the work period beginning and ending on Wednesdays. On the 15 work days, employees remain on the Dredge Hurley and are provided meals and lodging. This position works a 12 hour shift, and may rotate between day and night shifts. During the non-dredging season, the crew works day shift only, with the vessel based at Ensley Engineer Yard, Memphis, TN, on either a 5-day/8-hour or 4-day/10-hr. During the dredging season, the Dredge Hurley will work in widespread locations in the Mississippi River, including up to 90 days in the vicinity of Baton Rouge, LA.
