Job Title- Smart Hands /Datacenter Technician

Location- Memphis, TN (onsite from Day 1)

Duration- Contract

Job Description:Smart Hands Technician will work under limited supervision providing 24x7 smart hands services in the critical datacenter environment and communications closets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs data center inspections to ensure compliance with Critical Data Center best practices. Performs “Observe, Describe and Report” function for the data center.
  • Investigates and Identifies hardware error lights, audible alarms and irregularities.
  • Performs cabinet inspections for missing cabinet blanking panels, hanging cables, and obvious activity without a ‘work in progress’ form displayed.
  • Creates Incident records and assigns to the correct resolver team. Follows up on Incidents to ensure resolution, communicates with Systems administrators or vendor technicians to clarify problems and agree on corrective actions.
  • Communicates professionally with associates and clients through email, instant messages, phone, and in person.
  • Supervise / escort cabling companies, as needed, including troubleshooting problems and new installations.
  • Media handling. Load, unload and process tape media when required.
  • Swap out existing equipment, including power down of existing equipment, un-racking and un-stacking the existing equipment, rack and stack of new equipment, and power up of new equipment.
This requires the ability to
  • To trace cables / look for problems, the individual needs to be able to see inside the cabinet at eye level which can be as high 73 inches / 1.8M with or without the use of a stool or small ladder.
  • The ability to connect / disconnect cables for gear from ground level up to the top of the rack (again 73 inches / 1.8M).
  • The ability to safely lift gear into the rack either alone or in tandem with another individual – some of the gear can weigh in excess of 80 lbs / 32kg.
  • Be able to climb ladder and install components as high as 7 feet.
    • Restart equipment as directed. Ship/receive/install/de-install and test equipment as directed.
    • Work within a server room environment. Potentially high ambient background noise.
    • Occasional heavy lifting required. Lifting server equipment and moving around server cabinets and other accessories.
    • Perform routine required inspections of equipment placed high up in server cabinets and racks.
    • Work with OEM, plan, schedule and turn-up and test.
    • Coordinate / Engage with, and support other, third party vendors.
    • Hands on and can-do attitude.
    • Understanding of Change Management, Incident Management and Release and Configuration management processes.
    • Customer focus - Attention to detail.
    • Problem solving and Decision Making.
    • Excellent written and oral skills, clear and concise, keeps manager informed of work progression at sensible intervals.

    Technical and Behavioral Skills:
    • High school diploma or GED required with 4 years administrative experience or a Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years relevant experience.
    • Background investigation and drug screen required.
    • A+ Certification in basic computer hardware or equivalent experience preferred.
    • Understanding of ITIL Processes including Incident, Change, Problem and Configuration Management.
    • Familiarity with Remedy Force ticketing system and CMDB a plus.
    • General understanding of Data Center Infrastructure Management tools is helpful.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Microsoft Visio desired.
    • Ability to multitask and work alone during the shifts at the facility.
    • An active DoD clearance will be preferred
    • Client Interaction for all the activities to be executed in Datacenter.

    Service Window:
    • Ability to work all shifts on a rotating basis in a 24x7 support environment

    Experience:
    • 2+ years IT field engineering support, data center smart hands support, media services support or computer operations support experience highly desired.
