Research Asst I (Job Number: 1902050)DescriptionThe research position is part of the Calipari Lab in the Department of Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University and is responsible for contributing to multiple research projects with minimal supervision. The incumbent sets up and conducts experiments, analyzes and records data, as well as manages lab supplies, animals orders and assists in other laboratory and research functionThe Department of Pharmacology is a vibrant and interdisciplinary environment for cutting-edge research. The research group studies cell signal transduction and is developing biologics (e.g., antibodies) recognizing key signaling proteins of biomedical importance. Research personnel in the laboratory are very interactive and highly collaborative, working with both internal and external investigators to increase our understanding diseases characterized by deregulated cell signaling.Key Functions and Expected Performance

Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and evaluates experiments and assays of varying complexity

Understands and follows experimental protocols (including animal behavioral, animal imaging, biochemistry studies, etc.).

Carries out work with proper aseptic technique.

Records, analyzes, interprets, and communicates data/results.

Conducts mouse and rat colony maintenance, including breeding and genotyping.

Dispenses controlled substances and maintains accurate controlled substance inventory and recording keeping of dispense logs.

Recommends improvements to established techniques and/or protocols.

Provides appropriate written/oral documentation of experiments.

Follows University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, biohazardous materials, and/or radioactivity)

Orders lab supplies and animals.

Trains new trainees and staff.

Profile of an Ideal Candidate

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.

At least two years of directly related experience is necessary.

Experience working in a team-based organization is preferred.

Ability to clearly communicate results, ideas and concerns is preferred.
