SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Individual is a 26 year old female. Transportation required. A non-smoker is requested due to allergies and health concerns. Individual requires total assistance to engage in personal hygiene activities, including bathing, washing her hair, brushing her teeth, etc. She can walk independently but has an abnormal gait, and also has fragile bones that are highly susceptible to fracture and will use a stroller and wheelchair for longer walks in her community. She has an adapted tricycle that she enjoys riding in her neighborhood with her staff's supervision and assistance. She does not have a concept of danger and needs to be hand in hand when walking with staff outside of her home. Diagnosed with Scoliosis and Rhett's syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder. Non-verbal and communicates primarily through vocalizations, eye gaze and other expressive eye movements, and even through tantrums. Uses communication programs on her I-Pad to communicate her needs as much as possible, and should be encouraged to do so. She can make choices between options presented to her; this includes activities, places to go, foods, clothes, etc. She enjoys community outings and particularly enjoys swimming, horseback riding, shopping, going bowling, going to the park, listening to music/music videos, sensory toys, puzzles, books read to her, etc. It is vital that staff working with her pay attention to her, interact with her, talk to her, and engage her in activities she likes. She must be monitored at all times while eating. She wears pull-ups during the day and night that must stay dry and clean and also uses a timer and a routine of using the bathroom every 2 hours to meet bathroom needs. She is active and loves to be "on the go."
