Overview

The Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Application Administrator is responsible for the administration, configuration, development, and on-going support of the OLAP reporting and analytical solutions like Oracle Hyperion Essbase for the business community. The EPM Application Administrator must have strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. This team member will have exposure to data mapping, coding, ETL, metadata and report development. The job entails working with all aspects of Data Warehouse administration, business units and enabling groups. This team member must maintain relationships with business partners to better understand and enable delivery of their reporting requirements. This team member ensures that business partners are trained to use the applications in a way that will meet their requirements.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Administer the GM Financial Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) application systems
  • Ensure production environment stability and level of performance
  • Monitor and administer data extractions from the Data Warehouse to ensure availability and accuracy
  • Provide rotating after hours on-call support, working with internal and external resources as needed
  • Resolve production issues in a timely manner
  • Communicate production issues (describing issue, resolution, remediation, and status) with the business users and the Business Intelligence team in a timely manner
  • Follow application best practices, standards, and guidelines regarding the use and administration of the BI tools
  • Ensure compliance with GM Financial IT standards and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) IT controls
  • Document processes and standards and regularly provide documentation to business partners and the Business Intelligence team
  • Follow, contribute to, and maintain documentation for project plans, status reports, timelines, issues, risks, change requests, requirements, design, testing plans and test cases as needed for assigned projects
  • Provide management and team with regular, timely status reports and benchmarking metrics for projects, issues, system implementations and upgrades
  • Proactively develop, coordinate, and provide on-going training, functional and technical direction to business partners
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with various support teams to leverage data access and transfer using the BI applications
  • Create and develop content as needed to support business partners and demonstrate system functionality
  • Develop new data loads as needed
  • Assist with BI system implementations, upgrades, license management, security, auditing, and future/additional product evaluation for the Business Intelligence applications as needed
  • Make wise decisions regarding prioritization of work assignments
  • Develop and document effective new and existing operational procedures for BI infrastructure, BI Architecture, and business system requirements (as well as recommendations and proposals)
  • Write technical and business documents
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conform with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of report development, data models, and administration processes in an enterprise budgeting and planning tool is required Hyperion Planning, SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) for Microsoft, Cognos TM1 or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of database software (Oracle, SQL server, Informatica, Microsoft SSIS, Toad, SQL Developer, etc), stored procedures, and packages
  • Understanding of relational and OLAP database designs
  • IT experience should include maintenance and support activities of performance monitoring and tuning, upgrading versions, software configuration, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning, and general IT processes such as Change Management, Configuration Management, Problem Resolution, Incident Tracking, and SOX Control Compliance
  • Functional and technical understanding of budgeting and planning applications and processes
  • Financial Services and/or Accounting experience

Skills

  • Solid PL-SQL/ T-SQL writing skills required
  • Proficient in system administration with BI (Business Intelligence)/OLAP applications
  • Hands on experience designing, developing, and administering Business Intelligence applications
  • Ability to manage small and medium sized projects and perform necessary communication and coordination to management, end users and developer community
  • Ability to use appropriate analysis, judgment, and logic when solving problems and making decisions
  • Ability to plan, execute, and improve work processes to ensure achievement of business objectives
  • Strong active listening, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand GM Financial business model, apply knowledge, and critical thinking skills in day-to-day problems and solutions
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills
  • Experience in dealing with multiple business units, technical personnel, and a diverse employee population

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience required

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years working knowledge of database software (Oracle, SQL server, Informatica, Microsoft SSIS, Toad, SQL Developer, etc), stored procedures, and packages required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with system administration or development experience with BI (Business Intelligence)/OLAP applications required
  • Minimum of 3 years working knowledge of report development, data models, and administration processes in an enterprise budgeting and planning tool preferred
  • Experience using RDBMS such Oracle or MS SQL Server required #LI-TS1
