Overview

The Senior Global OpenShift Engineer is a senior-level Red Hat OpenShift container platform engineer for GM Financial. GM Financial's OpenShift container platform supports the IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation deployment. The IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation platform provides imaging, enterprise content management, business process automation, and much more functionality globally for all of GM Financial's business units.

At a high level, this senior engineer position, under the direction of management, and technical leads, is responsible for:

• OpenShift Architecture & Implementation

• OpenShift Administration

• OpenShift Version Upgrades/Migrations

• OpenShift Pipeline and Registry Management

• OpenShift Monitoring

• OpenShift Capacity Management

• OpenShift Documentation (Administration Guide, Best Practices, Governance, etc.)

• OpenShift Security

• OpenShift Support

• OpenShift Integrations

• Project Coordination, Analysis, Design, Estimation, Documentation (such as BRD, TRD, etc.), etc.

• Sustainability and improvement of processes, including task automation to improve process efficiency

• Audit and compliance remediation

• Balancing multiple projects with efficiency and accuracy

• Leadership escalation for production issues.

This position involves direct coordination with other team members, departments, business partners, and outside vendors on administration, support, and project work. The Senior Global OpenShift Engineer often functions as the IT Partner and/or BSA on projects in addition to acting as the platform engineer. The position will provide guidance and mentoring to team members of all levels. This individual will also become familiar with all compliance, regulatory and security requirements adhering to all corporate policies and standards. This person needs to be experienced in technology with good planning and coordination skills. An energetic, solution minded personality with drive, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills will be needed for success in this position.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Serve as an OpenShift 4x technology subject matter expert
  • Deploy, manage, and maintain the OpenShift infrastructure on-prem and in the cloud
  • Responsible for the metrics, monitoring, and alerting for the OpenShift environments
  • Responsible for the management of images and registry for the OpenShift environments
  • Responsible for ensuring node health within the OpenShift environments
  • Plan and execute OpenShift environment upgrades and migrations
  • Plan and execute OpenShift migrations from on-prem to the cloud
  • Responsible for the management of the capacity and scaling of all OpenShift environments
  • Plan and manage the security for all OpenShift environments
  • Ensure optimal health and performance across all OpenShift environments
  • Configure and manage OpenShift integrations with company tools such as CyberArk, Twistlock, Artifactory, Azure DevOps, Splunk, etc
  • Plan, organize, and direct/perform the implementation of enterprise solutions/platforms in accordance with strategic business plans and requirements
  • Interface with customers to provide issue resolution for platforms and solutions
  • Gather, analyze, and review customer requirements and recommend innovative solutions to appropriate management
  • Work closely with internal business units to facilitate project completion
  • Interface with software vendors and suppliers in support of business applications and platforms
  • Provide business rules interpretation for functional and technical specifications, system designs, and documentation for business solutions
  • Contributes to the development of RFPs/SOWs and participates in the vendor selection process
  • Identifies and directs changes through appropriate review and approval mechanisms
  • Promote a cooperative and productive team environment
  • Ensure our platforms and solutions are following modern standards and best practices and look for opportunities to implement new technologies
  • Provide direction and mentoring to team members of all levels
  • Maintain technical and functional awareness and competence
  • Advanced Linux and Windows operating system and applications support
  • Advanced troubleshooting at the OS, container, application, and web services tiers
  • Provide Quality Assurance Testing for production implementation
  • Ensure that all work and changes are performed in such a way as to minimize disruptions to the customer and other stakeholders
  • Must be able to work with limited to moderate direct supervision
  • Participate in company provided training, attend independent training, and perform research as appropriate
  • Install system patches and application updates as directed in accordance with company policy
  • Participate in an on-call support rotation in collaboration with the offshore team, for providing after-hours support as needed
  • Working ticketing system incident, request, and change management queue as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conform with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Expert knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift 4x
  • Expert knowledge of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
  • Expert knowledge of supporting Kubernetes container infrastructure and orchestration
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and other cloud platforms & technologies
  • Expert knowledge of IT infrastructure and networking technologies
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of microservices and containerization
  • Knowledge of IBM FileNet and related ECM/Content Services technologies
  • Knowledge of IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation
  • Experience with CI/CD
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team and with users at all levels

Skills

  • Ability to interpret business rules and customer requirements for creating system and process documentation, program specifications, and project specifications
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem solving, and follow-up skills with the ability to meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Capable of relating business issues to the ITS staff to achieve the necessary resolution of issues
  • Ability to interpret complex technical publications, diagrams, and project specifications
  • Ability to make sound decisions and exercise good judgment

  • Ability to speak multiple languages a plus

Education

  • High School Diploma required
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work or military experience required

Experience

  • 7-10 years experience in an Information Technology environment and respective business area required
  • 5-7 years supporting Red Hat OpenShift and related technologies required

Licenses

  • Red Hat Certifications in OpenShift, Ansible, and/or other OpenShift-related technologies preferred
  • IBM Certifications in Cloud Pak for Business Automation, FileNet, or other IBM ECM technologies preferred

Working Conditions

  • Subject to stressful situations
  • Possibility of working long hours may be required
  • Limited travel may be required to support business needs
