As a member of an Agile Scrum team, the Product Owner serves as a collaborative liaison between the Product Management and Product Delivery teams; aligning the teams' vision and direction, prioritizing and evaluating work, and delivering high-impact customer experiences. This individual provides thought leadership and execution excellence through the adoption and promotion of a Customer First approach to achieve high-value outcomes. The Product Owner is integral in the culmination of Product, UX, and Architectural strategies that align to execution.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • The PO consistently delivers on commitments with little supervision
  • Analyze and communicate customer requirements to provide innovative solutions and recommend system, product and process enhancements
  • Work collaboratively with the Program/Product Managers to advise on the creation and partners to communicate product road map initiatives to the teams that result in great experiences for our customers
  • Maintaining the product/team backlog, leading backlog prioritization of initiatives, aligning experiences across channels and touch points to ensure the best business results
  • Partner with vendor(s) and internal departments to ensure tasks are defined and documented with timely deliverables and within SLA
  • Communicate with all levels of leadership, internal business partners and external vendor(s) regarding project status and production performance
  • Identify optimization opportunities and partner with the teams to drive continuous product improvement
  • Partner with an Agile team charged with implementing the product road map
  • Work with the Agile team to craft high quality customer-centric user stories that exceed customer expectations
  • Responsible for leading the prioritization of the product backlog in partnership with product management
  • Collaborate with Architecture team(s) to understand enabling work and assist with decision-making and sequencing to ensure optimal delivery of value for business customers
  • Measure product performance using key information, processes and systems to ensure accountability for achieving business results
  • Ensure clear communication and coordination across business and IT teams to manage the scope of each product launch for on-time delivery of key features
  • Accept stories as done and participate in demonstrations of the work delivered at the end of the sprint to stakeholders
  • Invest in the Agile process and partner with the Agile teams to continuously improve product quality, time to market, and team member happiness
  • Display proficiency in promoting a Design Thinking mindset when exploring problems
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conform with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Ability to deliver best in class product experiences utilizing Design Thinking and Lean methodologies
  • Advanced knowledge of coordinating vendor relationships
  • Experience/understanding in Vision/Roadmap creation, Portfolio/Program/Team Backlog creation, refinement and prioritization
  • Proficient experience/understanding working with XML/JSON based APIs, Cloud Technologies, Service Virtualization, Test Data Management, and Data Driven Decision making
  • Knowledge of the Agile principles and methodologies and how they are applied in the workplace
  • Experience working within a matrix organization, collaborating with business stakeholders, user experience teams, project managers, product managers, developers and others
  • Track record of project execution, completing and shipping excellent products on time and on budget
  • Knowledge of GM Financial core business functions and information systems and operations for supported business groups

Skills

  • Advanced interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), cross-collaboration skills, including the ability to interact with team members at all levels
  • Advanced problem solver who can clearly identify, analyze, and resolve issues as they arise
  • Promotes best practices; cultivates innovation and learning
  • Proficient in the use SQL to support reporting, problem identification and resolution
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficient presentation skills

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field, equivalent work or military experience preferred

Experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in an IT environment or relevant role required
  • 3-5 years working on an Agile team preferred
  • 2-4 years experience as a Product Owner preferred

Licenses

  • Agile Certification (PSPO or CSP-PO or POPM/APM) required
  • PSPO II preferred

Working Conditions

  • Subject to stressful situations
  • Possibility of working long hours including weekends/holidays, occasional overtime may be required
  • Limited travel may be required to support business needs
