An innovative academic professional, the AVP provides a broad spectrum of support for tenure-line faculty from earning tenure to achieving full professor status to engaging in academic administration and participating in prestigious fellowships. The AVP also serves as a liaison with Academic HR providing policy guidance on recruitment, appointment/tenure/promotion, evaluation processes for probationary and tenured faculty, compensation changes, and leave/retirement programs.We invite individuals whose perspectives and experiences will enrich and strengthen our organization and thrive in the dynamic environment offered by a Carnegie I, HSI , AANAPISI , comprehensive urban university.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate faculty development efforts across the colleges, including recruitment efforts, support for faculty search committees, and capacity building for tenure-track faculty promotion.
Work collaboratively with various units and leaders across the institution, including department chairs, associate deans, deans, the Office of Research & Innovation, the Office of Talent, Culture, and Inclusion to ensure that policies and procedures are aligned with the goals and mission of the institution.
Coordinate faculty hiring best practices and training of search committees and department chairs to align with university values, mission, and vision.
Help coordinate and collaborate on tenure-track faculty professional development and promotion review processes.
Help lead new initiatives focused on increasing equitable opportunities for faculty.
Facilitates and promotes a campus environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development for faculty at every stage and recognizes the variety of backgrounds and lived experiences of our academic community. #LI-LT1
Required Qualifications
Successful university teaching experience and an excellent record of research, scholarship, and creative activities.
Experience working with academic personnel policies and procedures in a shared governance environment.
Must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work at an urban, comprehensive institution committed to access and excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
Five plus (5+) years of successful administrative leadership experience at the college or university level.
Knowledge of the broad spectrum of activities related to faculty personnel processes.
Knowledge and experience in faculty development and department chair leadership.
Experience organizing or facilitating faculty development opportunities addressing belonging and satisfaction issues.
Demonstrated ability to mentor faculty successfully.
Ability to supervise and manage office personnel successfully,
Utilize web-based systems for faculty evaluations and faculty recruitment and appointments.
Provide leadership and work collaboratively university-wide to support the mission of the University.
