The Junior Innovation Designer is a unique position that plays a key role in the Innovation Office: 1) helping to shape early-stage innovative concepts into low/high resolution prototypes and 2: Organizing and executing the programs and tools the Innovation Office employs toward reaching our goal of Developing A Culture of Innovation.This role is an excellent development opportunity where the candidate will be a part of a small, unique team that is executing an innovation process at GM Financial. The right candidate is excited to interview our internal innovators about their ideas and then help our innovators develop these ideas into concepts that can be moved through the innovation process. Finally, the Junior Innovation Designer is an enthusiast voice for the Innovation Office across all of GM Financial. This person will likely come from a Service Design background but may also have performed a similar role outside of a Service Design organization.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Supporting activities across the Innovation Office's responsibilities, ie assist in developing
  • communication documents and business cases for presentation to Innovation Steering Committee
  • Organize and execute: the "Innovation Awards" program, monthly Innovation Forum, Innovation Challenge program, and Innovation metrics reporting
  • Managing the "Innovation Hub" the Innovation Office's virtual home
  • Turning verbal interviews and written descriptions into "visuals": low/high resolution prototypes, demos, presentations, mock-ups, and documents
  • Interviewing innovation idea submitters (Innovators) about their submissions
  • Leading Human-Centered-Design (Design Thinking, Design Sprints, etc) sessions in support of idea development and discovery
  • Facilitating ideation sessions using ideation methodologies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conform with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Turning verbal interviews and descriptions into "visuals": low/high resolution prototypes, demos, presentations, mock-ups, documents
  • Developing and documenting customer journeys
  • Ability to lead the Innovator's journey from interview stage to high resolution prototype/demo stage
  • Storytelling in a business context, strong presentation and communication skills
  • Understanding of agile delivery methodologies
  • Basic understanding of environment around enterprise IT architecture, software development, in a highly regulated environment

Skills

  • Project Management
  • Interviewing
  • Proven Human-Centered-Design (Design Thinking, Design Sprints, etc) session organization and facilitation/leadership
  • Ideation Facilitation
  • InVision, Sketch, Balsamiq, Whimsical, Adobe or equivalent software packages
  • HTML/CSS, JavaScript and/or other languages to create prototypes/demos/mockups
  • MS Office, other presentation software packages
  • Building and maintaining Internal relationships

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work or military experience preferred

Experience

  • 2-3 years experience in a design role required
  • 2-4 years experience in a corporate environment preferred

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment subject to stressful situations
  • Possibility of working long hours may be required
  • Travel may be required to support business needs
