Overview

The Global Storage Systems Engineer, under the general direction of the Manager, will assist in the day-to-day tasks critical to the team's success. The ideal candidate will,

  • be responsible for attending project meetings when necessary and assist in gathering and documenting infrastructure and security requirements;
  • become familiar with all compliance, regulatory and security requirements adhering to all corporate policies and standards.
  • be experienced in technology (i.e., PowerScale/Isilon/IBM FC storage arrays), and good planning, energetic, solution minded personality with drive, attention to details and excellent communication skills will be needed for success in this position.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Solution Building - Using good business acumen to communicate effectively with internal and external organizational units to gather requirements and transform functional and non-functional requirements into solution architectures and solution designs
    • Analyze, draft recommendations and optimize existing systems
    • Medium Level System Administration: Posses knowledge of SAN storage technologies, such as:
      • Brocade Fiber Channel Storage Area Networks
      • IBM FC Storage arrays
      • Dell FC Storage arrays
      • Dell Isilon/Powerscale unstructured data systems
      • TCP/IP Networking
  • Support and implement fabric configuring, zoning, masking and mapping of storage in a mid-level storage environment.
  • Study and analyze the performance and capacities of the systems and peripheral equipment/systems and prepares plans for future expansion and upgrades
  • Identify and evaluate third party vendors, technology, or processes for integration with GM Financial's technology and equipment
  • Responsible for the assessment and optimization of hardware utilization through review and assessment of user needs
  • Understands and promotes the GM Financial policy on Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) to ensure ongoing adherence to all relevant compliance regulations that may govern the GM Financial business and complete all regulatory knowledge training where applicable in a timely fashion
  • Contributes to the development of RFPs/SOWs and participates in the vendor selection process
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conform with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of:
    • Brocade Fiber Channel Storage Area Networks
    • IBM FC Storage arrays
    • Dell FC Storage arrays
    • Dell Isilon/Powerscale unstructured data systems
    • TCP/IP Networking
  • Working knowledge of management processes such as personnel administration, planning and budgeting
  • Knowledge and stay abreast on the latest security and privacy legislation, regulations, advisories, alerts and vulnerabilities
  • Infrastructure design and management
  • Advanced knowledge of SAN storage technologies

Skills

  • Ability to approach problems with an open-mind, use existing information and resources
  • Ability to think strategically and make collaborative decisions
  • Experience in documentation tools such as Visio and Microsoft Office products
  • IT security processes and controls knowledge as well as IT infrastructure and networking technical knowledge

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience preferred

Experience

  • 7-10 years experience in storage array administration and area network administration required
