Our client, a retirement services company, is seeking a Financial Analyst

Location: Austin, TX

Position Type: Contract

Job Summary:

The Financial Analyst will coordinate purchasing, contract administration, and vendor accounting activity for the Investment Management Division (IMD). Work involves planning, designing, implementing and administering of procurements, contract renewals, contract administration, reporting, vendor payments, reconciliations, and forecasting vendor expenses. For new or expiring contracts that require a solicitation, work will involve assistance in writing statement of work, evaluation criteria, and coordinating the solicitation with the Procurement and Contracts department. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. This position reports to an Investment Operations Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

Procurement & Contract Administrative Related - 50%

  • Works with IMD business units to support contracting for new services or renewal of existing services
  • Coordinates the procurement process for IMD with TRS Procurement & Contracts and Legal & Compliance teams and the relevant Business Unit(s)
  • Works with the Business Unit to prepare statements of work and evaluation criteria for solicitations
  • Enters requisitions into CAPPS general ledger accounting system and ensures completion
  • Maintains Contract files and performs required Contract Management activities
  • Manage users of services (adds named users, deletes users that no longer need service)
  • Assists with development of annual procurement plan
  • Updates Contracts database
  • Reconciles IMD contracts data to TRS systems

Accounting and reporting related - 50%

  • Validates invoices and ensures invoicing requirements are met
  • Allocates invoice cost to appropriate Business Units
  • Enters journal entries to record payment activity and ensures correct invoice and contract reference
  • Maintains vendor spreadsheets to track expenditures and forecast costs and reconciles to TRS and Payer accounting systems
  • Assists in budget development
  • Manages IMD procurement, including purchase processing and statement reconciliation

Support - 10%

  • Provides subject matter expertise to Business Units
  • Works with stakeholders to improve processes
  • Assists with budget planning

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, finance, accounting, supply chain management, or related
  • A Master's degree in a related area may substitute for a year of the required experience.

Required Experience:

  • One to Three (3) years of full-time financial analyst roles which may include procurement, contract management, accounting, financial analysis, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of full-time professional procurement and contract management or other experience involving a high degree of skill in data analysis and evaluation, such as accounting, financial analysis, or statistics.

  • Performing financial analysis
  • Verifying vendor invoices
  • Using a computer in a Windows environment with MS Office word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems; report writing; and other business software
  • Effective verbal and written communication of complex procurement policies and procedures to people of varying backgrounds, including skill in presenting analysis and recommendations

Ability to:

  • Organize and coordinate work assignments to effectively meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and manage conflicting priorities and demands
  • Analyze problems and devise effective solutions
