The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for assuring all equipment and instruments are operational and ensures adequacy and organization of equipment, supplies and instruments. The position assists professional staff in providing care for the operative patient before, during and after surgery. The position requires thorough surgical knowledge and expertise to ensure proper instrumentation and supplies are available on the surgical field and/or in the operating room. The CST helps the sterile operative team, performs scrub and circulating duties in the operating room, performs routine and specialized housekeeping activities, and applies principles of asepsis, infection control and medical ethics. The position, under the direction of the Laboratory, assumes responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.The CST functions under the direction of the RegisteredNurse and Physician to facilitate the safe and effective completion of invasive surgical procedures. The surgical technologist must possess knowledge of aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and current technology used to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. 3 - 7 years:recent experience as a Surgical Technologist with demonstrated competency in multiple inpatient surgical specialties
Other required experience: Ability to serve as resource to RN’s in area of specialty
Other preferred experience:Expertise in General, GYN, Orthopedic, Neuro, Urology and CVEDUCATION REQUIRED

Other Degree-Major: Graduate from an accredited educational program for Surgical Technology.Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (if work experience as surgical tech is prior to 9/1/09, employee need not have national surgical technician certification (grandfathered); if hired after September 1, 2009 per Texas Board; must have certification within 180 days of graduation); minimum of 3 years recent experience waived if certified.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
