Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications : POSITION SUMMARY : The LCMS R&D Scientist is responsible for R&D and validation of tests performed by LC-MS / MS and other methodologies.

The Development Scientist works closely with management to explore, design, evaluate and optimize assays to demonstrate the feasibility of potential new tests and technologies to enhance test menu and reduce costs.

The Development Scientist translates projects into Project Management timelines and adheres to delivery dates. Additionally, the Development Scientist mentors and trains other Scientists in the laboratory.

The Development Scientist follows all Sonic Reference Laboratory and departmental policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance, and safety.

R&D and validation of tests using LC-MS / MS techniques. Development activities include sample extraction through instrumental analyses.

Coordinates and provides bench level supervision of projects for R&D. Coordinates the implementation of new procedures within the department and with other support departments.

Performs validation and statistical analysis of new tests. Provides written summaries of work to be used for test documentation.

Trains staff in new tests both in technical and instrumental aspects. Manages special projects in the department via coordination of resources and personnel.

Serves as a resource for technical questions. Maintains present testing reliability including diagnosing test failures (instrumental and chemical) and implementing corrective action.

Supports the production team during periods of high volume. Actively supports and complies with laboratory policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Ability to understand written and verbal instructions. Must be able to work well with variety of laboratory personnel.

Excellent attention to detail. Basic computer knowledge. Must be able to work with frequent interruptions and fluctuations in workload.

Familiar with laboratory equipment associated with 1-5 years experience. Familiarity with laboratory policies, goals, and objectives.

Ability to set and meet deadlines with high quality work. Ability to understand graphs, tables, charts and perform calculations needed for the task.

Ability to follow and implement policies and Standard Operating Procedures. Ability to see projects to completion. Ability to manage time and details.

Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, directors and co-workers. EDUCATION : B.
