Job Title: Machine Operator 2

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Assistant Manager, Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Machine Operator 2 (MO2) is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing company railway maintenance and inspection equipment. This position can operate Loram’s on track MOW equipment and/or on track vehicles unsupervised in both operating and travel modes. In this role you may be assigned to various types of equipment platforms dependent on business needs and demands.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Safety Focused

  • Ability to lead a comprehensive and appropriate job briefing during operations shifts, maintenance shifts, and while conducting maintenance tasks.
  • Adheres to and enforces Loram and general railroad operating practices and safety procedures
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of railroad rules across multiple systems/customers
  • Leads by example regarding all Loram safety programs along with mentoring Machine Operator 1’s and General Laborers regarding safe work habits
  • Need to obtain and maintain proper credentials to be qualified to operate the various machine platforms based on the career development matrix.

Machine Operations and Technical Knowledge

  • Controls the operation of the machine without assistance in all situations from the control cab in both operating and travel mode and direct machine backup movements
  • Assists in scheduled preventative and unscheduled maintenance to ensure consistent product quality and machine reliability
  • Conducts machine testing, calibration, troubleshooting and repairs
  • Appropriately responds to alarms and gauges out of normal range
  • Able to optimize operation for maximum efficiency without compromising safety
  • Able to interact with railroad personnel to assure machine movements are conducted safely
  • Understands and shares knowledge about machine technical aspects (hydraulics, mechanical, etc.) and can teach others basic equipment functions and standard operating practices

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

6+ Months Experience working with Loram equipment or equivalent in a 24/7 environment; Meet all relevant or applicable pre-qualifications as noted in the general description for this role and Loram’s career development matrix.

Licenses/Certifications: Maintain Railroad Certifications, CPR/First Aid, valid Driver’s License
