Remote:- Till Covid Job Title :- Senior Cloud Performance Engineer Job Location :- Austin, TX or Dallas, TX As a Senior Cloud performance engineer, you will be given the responsibility to execute performance and scale tests, conducting end-to-end analysis of cloud solutions including underlying cloud service/infrastructure software and hardware. This role will be responsible for applying best practices and tuning, as well as working with associated development team(s) to drive required optimizations, in order to deliver on the requirements of high performance, efficiency and scale of the IBM cloud solution. The role also includes responsibility for development of performance benchmark automation and performance results analysis/visualization tooling.

Primary Job responsibilities:

Partner with development on design and engineering of cloud solutions and optimize every part of the architecture stack (services, infrastructure, software, hardware) to ensure the performance and scalability goals are achieved.

Design and implement appropriate automated test frameworks, benchmarks for repetitive measurement and analysis of the performance and scalability of the overall cloud solution.

Define metrics for measuring and tracking performance of the cloud solution/services/infrastructure.

Develop automated data collection and advanced tooling as necessary leveraging open tools to help drive performance analysis.

Provide thorough end-to-end analysis with concrete recommendations to pinpoint and solve performance and scaling issues.

Perform advanced tuning of cloud solution/service/infrastructure software and hardware.

Document performance risks, results, analysis and recommendation; Communicate relevant information and insights to stakeholders.

Provide leadership and assistance in resolution of production incidents related to performance; Prevent incidents through proactive data analysis and monitoring.

Required skills:

B.S.in Computer Science or related field; M.S.preferred.

(8+ years) Expert ability to benchmark, analyze and identify the end-to-end performance issues involving complex software and infrastructure stack (application to service to infrastructure to the hardware).

(8+ years) Excellent working knowledge of Linux and overall cloud system architecture - compute/storage/network cloud services and components, virtualization technology (Xen hypervisor, KVM, libvirt, Kubernetes, OpenShift, etc)

(8+ years) Expert ability to tune and optimize cloud services and back end systems.

(8+ years) Expert problem solver with demonstrable ability to build effective plans around future issues.

(8+ years) Experience in developing cloud scale performance test suites, profiling tools and test analysis.

(8+ years) Coding experience in programming languages (using Python, Golang, PHP, Java, C, Ruby, etc.)

(4+ years) Experience in developing high performance and scalable cloud scale web services.

(4+ years) Experience with very large distributed systems such as database systems, storage farms, and/or horizontally scaled request processing fleets.

(4+ years) Experience working with public cloud platforms such as those from IBM, Amazon, Microsoft or Google.

(4+ years) Experience with Agile and continuous delivery models.

(4+ years) Experience with GitHub for code and bug management.

Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills.

Excellent ability to partner with Architects, Developers, and cross-functional teams to collaboratively tune and optimize systems.

Ability to be hands on with individual issues without losing sight of the "big picture"; ability to provide a "larger vision" for the future.
