Your Opportunity

The Sr. Scrum Master will play a key role within Schwab's Digital Advisor Onboarding team, supporting the Digital Account Onboarding system. The Scrum Master provides effective collaboration, facilitation, leadership, and coaching skills supporting an interdisciplinary software development team, the agile development process, and delivery of value. As an agile expert, the Scrum Master will be responsible for enforcing the agile tenants as interpreted by our team, removing impediments, and promoting empowerment and continuous improvement. The Scrum Master position is highly responsible and accountable and will challenge the teams and strive for improving agile best practices. This position requires technical understanding of software development and technology. Your responsibilities will include ensuring timely releases, Program Increment Planning, managing scum ceremonies, communicating release status to stakeholders, coordinating with Product Owner, helping team to manage risk, and improving overall development backlog.

What you are good at

  • Organizing and facilitating team ceremonies and cultivating team interactions/dynamics that enable the delivery of value to internal and external clients
    • Organize and facilitate daily stand-up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meeting
    • Assist team with making appropriate commitments through story selection, task definition
    • Adapting project scope, schedules, and resource assignments as required throughout projects to respond to emerging requirements and risks
    • Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution
    • Ensure the team strives to make each increment of functionality potentially releasable
    • Recommend improvements and assist in changes to leading practices
    • Update agile tracking systems to provide transparency on Product & Sprint Backlogs.
    • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
    • Participate in the organization and planning of the development schedule based on methodology that has been developed to create a cohesive plan with identifiable platform dependencies, and major milestones, and manages the agreed project user stories and schedules, ensuring successful completion within scope, budget, time, and quality parameters
    • Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress
    • Support development and software delivery
  • Promoting team self-organization and optimization while removing distractions and impediments
    • Empower the teams to self-organize
    • Improve the productivity of the sprint teams
    • Identify and remove impediments, prevent distractions that interfere with the ability of the team to deliver the sprint goal
    • Support the development engineers and project leads as necessary
  • Role modeling Schwab Leadership behaviors and coaching the team to practice agile principles and values through people, process, and technology
    • Ensure the development teams are practicing the core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, and visibility
  • Support agile-based software development lifecycle, creating necessary standards, tools, and best practices

What you have

  • 7+ years as a Scrum Master
  • 10+ years of overall technology experience
  • Project Management experience using Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience in coaching and leading teams new to Agile
  • Must be an excellent team leader with the ability to absorb pressure, influence and negotiate
  • Understanding of software engineering principles and exposure to varied technology stacks
  • Experience using Work Tracking Tools (ex. Jira, Confluence, MURAL is a Plus)
  • Experience with highly complex project systems and working with various other domains to ensure integrated planning of development and testing is adhered to
  • Experience with collaborating with and communicating to various levels of stakeholders and management
  • Experience with negotiating prioritization between Product Owners and Technical leadership
  • Experience working with agile methodology on large scale, technically complex projects for a large enterprise
  • Highly adaptable to a constantly changing environment
  • Must have the requisite software development knowledge or experience to coach and guide team members on how to improve their skills
  • Must have exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse and a geographically dispersed team
  • Must be self-motivated, as well as, creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems
  • Must be collaborative in driving decisions and able to deal with all levels of management and stakeholders
