Description

Performs complex (journey-level) editorial work. Work involves laying out, indexing, and revising content of written materials in preparation for final publication of the weekly Texas Register. May train others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

The job includes examining rules and other documents submitted by state agencies to determine if they meet all statutory requirements and are acceptable for filing and publication. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On rare occasions overtime may be required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Review documents for conformity with filing requirements.

Detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax.

Prepare documents for publishing, both online and in print.

Maintain database of subscribers as well as authorized users from filing agencies.

Interact with representatives of filing agencies on a daily basis to explain filing requirements and ensure correct publication of documents received.

Interact with members of the general public regarding information published in the Texas Register and Texas Administrative Code.

Update the Texas Administrative Code online database.

Update the team's portion of the agency website.

May train others.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES

Education and Experience

Experience in editorial work. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in journalism, communications, English, or a related field is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of administrative, clerical, and data entry procedures and systems.

Ability to type 35 CWPM with no more than 5 errors.

Demonstrates spelling ability.

Ability to multitask and prioritize work to meet publication deadlines.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with team members, agency contacts, and the public.

Ability to build appropriate rapport and maintain positive working relationships.

Ability to adhere to an approved work schedule and maintain punctual attendance.

Ability to work overtime when required

Familiarity with software used for publishing such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, etc.
