The Insurance Solutions organization is seeking a highly talented, driven insurance professional to join our dynamic, high-performing and business-facing team focused on modernizing, supporting, and transforming our capabilities that support our Foundational Business insurance product lines.

The Business Analyst's primary role will be as a business process and systems analyst, documenting and gathering requirements from business areas (i.e. Sales, Actuarial, Operations), yet also act as a relationship manager, partnering with internal technology teams, third-party administrators (TPAs) and third-party technology vendors to build insurance solutions for our business. The ideal candidate should have 5+ years' experience supporting insurance projects and must be skilled in communicating across workstreams, project teams, functional teams, and up to program leaders.

The Business Analyst is a critical role in our organization supporting the full lifecycle of insurance processing, from client prospecting to claims administration. This position will challenge your strategic, analytic, and team-building skills, and requires perseverance to overcome challenges in delivery of complex solutions. This position will work as a member of the Insurance Solutions organization and will report to the Illustrations platform delivery manager.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Owns requirement generation and documentation for assignments ranging from strategic projects to minor tactical enhancements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings to conduct analysis and document business processes, workflow and requirements. Solicit business and system requirements using walk-through, document analysis, use case scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis
  • Understand the success criteria defined by the business or recognize when the business lacks a clear vision of success criteria. Ensure alignment is achieved for success criteria and continually validate scope and requirements against the agreed upon objectives.
  • As needed, translate business requirements from product and business areas into functional requirements, non-functional requirements, data requirements, and reporting requirements , that can be consumed by either a technology vendor, a TPAs or internal technology teams
  • Work with our business and technical partners to achieve an efficient and effective solution with holistic view across internal and external systems
  • Provide guidance to User Acceptance Testing teams to ensure optimal test coverage (relying on own knowledge, as well as facilitating conversations with SMEs.
  • Support business and technology teams to ensure key deliverables are met in an accurate timely manner
  • Participate in QA and User Acceptance testing of the delivered system functionality as needed
  • Provide ongoing production support to end-users and track items through completion
  • Assist in grooming a backlog of requirements and open production defects with product owners along with providing input into the appropriate prioritization

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field
  • 5+ years' relevant experience, within the area of insurance (Long-term Care, Individual Disability Income, Life Insurance, etc.). Relevant financial services experience will be considered.
  • Excellent analytical skills to examine and evaluate a variety of systems for requirements where documentation is unavailable
  • Strong, practical knowledge of Long-term Care, Individual Disability Income, or life insurance mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of compliance regulation applicable to insurance products
  • Working knowledge of risk management applicable to insurance products
  • Ability to clearly communicate with software users/SMEs and development vendors
  • Proficiency in MS Office and related applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Strong excel and spreadsheet skills; understanding formulas/calcs. VB/macro experience is a plus.
  • Strong writing and verbal skills for recording issues, and creating requirement documentation
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively
  • Knowledge of SDLC including the end-to-end technology delivery process is a plus
  • Passionate about process improvement and proven ability to creatively solve problems
  • Ability to research, make inquiries & follow a line of investigation to solve issues and document results
  • Active and attentive listening skills
  • Ability to function independently with limited direction
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment and manage through tight timeframes for delivery of work
