This is a nine month, tenure track (60% teaching, 30% research and 10% service) position that reports directly to the Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. The position will have a primary focus of livestock economics, including management, marketing, and risk mitigation of confined animal feeding operations. The successful candidate will interface with crop, livestock, and agribusiness firms regarding strategies for mitigating production, price, and weather risks through the use of risk management strategies.WTAMU is a four-year academic institution of 10,000 students serving the Panhandle of Texas and beyond. This geographic region is noted for its agricultural production and related agri-businesses. The Department of Agricultural Sciences offers three Master of Science degrees, Agriculture (with emphasis in Agricultural Business and Economics, Agriculture Education, or Agriculture Media and Communication), Animal Science, and Plant, Soil and Environmental Science. The Department also offers a Ph.D. in Systems Agriculture. Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in agricultural marketing, risk management, human resource management, and confined animal feeding operation management for both in class and online delivery, as needed.

Teach nine hours per long semester for undergraduate and/or graduate programs.

Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Seek and successfully acquire external funding to support program.

Publish in high quality peer-reviewed journals.

Develop a research program in an area of agricultural risk, marketing, and management that will lead to solutions for the agricultural industry of the Texas High Plains.

Support and contribute to program development, student activities, recruitment and placement of students for internships and employment opportunities.

Collaborate and develop partnerships with commodity groups, extension educators, agencies and other stakeholders related to agricultural marketing and risk management.

Participate in service activities and committees to support the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Applied Economics or closely related field

Excellent computer, written and oral communication skills, and working knowledge of crop and livestock industries.

Experience in confined animal feeding operations.

Experience in livestock and commodity markets as well as risk management.

Ability to develop strong allied partnership within the livestock, feed, and processing segments of the geographical region.

Interest in conducting industry relevant research related to agricultural marketing and risk management.

Interpersonal skills, vision, and desire to establish working relationships with external constituents.

Successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment begins and must be able to work legally in the United States for the proposed term of employment.
