The Solution Engineer role for Agency Technology will be at the forefront of key platform modernization efforts enabling new technologies, simplification of system processes, and reengineering platforms for our Agency Compensation and Operations group. The Solution Engineer will transform conceptual architecture into detailed technical requirements implemented within the development team. Ability to understand the core Agency Compensation domain will be required to facilitate the delivery of a solution. Best practices and policies are part of the duties to ensure corporate and local governance is adhered. Partner with the architecture team during the conceptual design, roadmap construction and adoption of policy. Key Responsibilities:- Presents project specific high-level solution design to Solution Architect through Architecture Review process
- Works closely with test teams to ensure effective test strategies to support technical implementation
- Actively collaborate with and align to information, data, security and infrastructure strategies.
- Works with Enterprise Architecture team to ensure standards and best practices are being adhered to
- Partners with Business stakeholders and IT Business Analysts and to review and understand business requirements
- Participates as a member of the project team to ensure optimal design solution is understood and implemented.
- Translates business requirements and conceptual architectural design into high-level solution design
- Ensures the alignment of architectural designs and solutions with the organization's business objectives and architectural standards, principles & patterns
- Documents and reviews technical specifications with Systems Analysts
- Facilitates and leads design review sessions and technical discussions
- Coordinates with Systems Analyst to transform high-level solution design into detailed solution design
- Supports initiatives through the entire solution delivery lifecycle from initial kickoff to production deployment, identifying potential technical risks and develops mitigation plans
- Optionally supports Solution Architect in the evaluation and decision process of buy versus build, including packaged applications, SaaS and Cloud based offerings
- Acts as a subject matter expert in assigned functional domain(s), technologies and applications
- Stays current on emerging trends and technologies and integrates into technical solutions according to architectural standards
- Stays current on NYL architectural standards - Identifies and suggests technical improvements in current systems
- Work with Solution Engineers across NYL Technology that are building out or enhancing applications and solutions to provide mentorship, collaborate on the use of tools and methodology, and to share expertise to ensure scalable, quality end-to-end solutions that effectively solve business problems
- Creates and maintains project design artifacts to capture current state.
- Represents project teams at architecture, security and financial control review boards.
- Help to guide and align team with key modernization efforts across multiple Compensation systems
- 7+ years of relevant experience working as a practitioner engineer
- Advanced level of expertise to document solutions and take a project to completion.
- Knowledge of variant documentation techniques in Conceptual Diagrams, Logical Diagrams, Use-Case Diagrams, Data Entity Diagrams. UML and Class Diagrams.
- Expert in Data Warehousing and Data Mart Design techniques.
- General knowledge of tool sets related to Semantic Layers, ETL, Business Intelligence, Profilers, Change Data Capture Techniques and Batch Processing
- Excellent communication skills to a wide range of audiences.
- Proficient in development abilities related Oracle
- SQL and PLSQL Knowledgeable
- Proficient in Business Intelligence and Analytical Technology Stack
- Proven understanding of SDLC
- Financial Service background is desired
- Aware of emerging technologies within NoSQL or Hadoop related technologies.
- Knowledge of legacy technology - Mainframe, COBOL would be extremely helpful
- Knowledge of Java and other distributed languages is a huge plus
- General knowledge of concepts in Service oriented architecture is a plus
- Experience or training in Pega technology is a plus
- Experience with modernization effort (Conversion of legacy systems to more modern solutions) is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a closely related discipline required
