Title: AS400 Senior IT Operator

Location: Miramar, FL preferred or Dallas, TX (Hybrid - onsite 1 time per week)

Duration: 6 months contract to hire

Compensation: $35.00 to $38.00 hourly

Job Description:

  • The Infrastructure Operations role is responsible for the day-to-day operations and support of data center operations and accountable for leading the availability of enterprise key operating platforms (KOP's).
  • Responsibilities of this role include monitoring the health of systems including but not limited to the physical environment that is comprised of power, server, network, storage, and connectivity.
  • The Infrastructure Operations role monitors systems for threshold adherence, monitoring batch operations, executing tasks required for backup and recovery operations (tape setup and mounting activities, tape post processing and dismounting activities), documentation and escalation of issues to the appropriate support groups, executing processes necessary to produce required reports, including the creation of the daily report.
  • This role creates and updates documentation as it relates to data center support operations.
  • Follow up on all special requests from sites (Refresh/Backups/etc.).
  • Daily Interaction with the Midrange Systems group
  • Be available to cover any Shift whenever required.
  • Publish daily activity and problem logs.
  • Support and be involved with the Critical Incident Management team activities
  • Proactively monitor the health of systems and notify manager as appropriate
  • Monitor the systems for threshold adherence
  • Monitor batch operations
  • Execute tasks required for backup and recovery operations (tape setup and mounting activities, tape
  • post processing and dismounting activities)
  • Document issues and escalate them to the appropriate support groups
  • Execute processes necessary to produce required reports, including the creation of the daily report
  • Create and update documentation for data center support operations
  • Maintain data center cleanliness and security
  • Mentor peers to help them build capabilities
  • Improve efficiency of team
  • Available 24x7
  • Verify Turnover between shifts are properly covered
  • Daily communications and updates with all three Shifts

Skillset / Experience: Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Technical Degree
  • 3 or more years of experience working within data center operations
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good time management skills (i.e. works efficiently)
  • Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Professional skills to analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to utilize existing resources to resolve problems
  • Strong team player who can work across multiple functions and disciplines
  • Capability to understand application portfolio as well as how the different systems contribute to daily business operations
  • Strong customer service skills
  • 3 or more years of experience interacting with customers
  • Ability to drive a problem to resolution and gathering the specifics to identify a root cause

  • Experience working within data center operations
  • Proven skills in effectively managing time
  • Proficient in time management skills (i.e. works efficiently)
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to lead and direct others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong thinking skills to analyze when a process has changed and question the validity
  • The ability to quickly identify the appropriate resources and utilize them to resolve problems
Specialized Skills and Technologies

  • Experience in the AS400 operations field
  • 3 or more years of experience with: AS400 / iSeries, backup / recovery and job scheduler functionality
  • Able to troubleshoot both AS400 Operational problems
  • Available 24x7 - will do whatever it takes to get the job done
  • Availability to cover 3rd, 2nd, 1st shift including weekends when required
  • Verify Turnover between shifts are properly covered
  • Daily communications and updates with all three Shifts. Dependable, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Thorough understanding of Backup and Recovery (BRMS) (will train)
  • Knowledge of Robot product a plus (will train)
  • Follow up on all special requests from sites (Refresh/Backups/etc.)
  • Daily Interaction with the Midrange Systems group
  • Be available to cover any Shift whenever required
  • Publish daily activity and problem logs
  • Support and be involve with the Critical Incident Management team activities. ITIL v3.0

  • Physical demands with activity or condition for a considerable amount of time include sitting and typing/keyboarding using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor) or adding machine
  • Physical demands with activity or condition may include occasional to rare amount of time include walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping
  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
