Automation Programmer Our client, a leading manufacturer of building solutions products, is seeking an automation programmer to work at their plant in the southern DFW metroplex. The purpose of the role is to provide automation programming and support services to the plant. The candidate will be responsible for all PCS activities with the goal of optimizing plant performance. It is expected that the person in this position will grow into an Automation Engineer. Duties include:
  • Compliance with all safety policies
  • Design, develop, implement and monitor the PCS and PCS-managed plant systems
  • Maximize uptime of equipment and continually improve the HMI and PLC programming
  • Work independently and proactively on concurrent projects
  • Assist with installation of new equipment in the plant, quickly making new systems operational, minimizing downtime
  • Create estimates for engineering, scheduling and budgeting, design and assess needs for instrumentation and I/O, communications, logic diagrams, and functional descriptions
  • Execute all facets of PCS engineering, including programming, HMI, data logging, and external links
  • Use simulation to assess and validate of all facets of PCS systems
  • Planning for backup and disaster recovery
  • Provide technical support for the Quality Department (network design and administration, server set up and implementation)
  • Provide reporting data to management

Requirements:
  • Knowledge of techniques and practices for industrial safety and maintenance
  • Programming of ABB PLCs (AC450 and AC800M) and integration of other PLC systems such as Allen Bradley SLC 500, MicroLogix, and ControlLogix
  • HMI Configuration and Operation
  • Sys Admin responsibilities for security, computer equipment, industrial communications systems (fiber optics, modbus, Ethernet/IP, etc.) and networks
  • Experience working in cement, mining, steel or similar industries is desirable (will consider O&G)
  • Experience with system administration; including IT security, servers and PC hardware
  • Electrical CAD experience
