Primary Purpose

The Director of Development has responsibility for strategic design, execution, management, and leadership of Parkland Foundation’s (“Foundation”) major gifts fundraising programs, with the goal of increasing gift revenue and increasing the number of donors.

Minimum Specifications

Education

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in fundraising with at least four (4) years’ experience in major gift work.
  • Experience in creating and implementing short and long-term strategic fundraising plans preferred.
  • Experience working with Raiser’s Edge or other comparable donor management system desired.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Must have Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) course certification for IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS) or obtain within 30 days of placement in role.
  • Must have Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) course certification for IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS 100) for Healthcare/Hospitals or obtain within 30 days of placement in role.
  • Must have Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) course certification for IS-200.HCA: Applying ICS to Healthcare Organizations (ICS 200) or obtain within 30 days of placement in role.
  • Must have Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) course certification for IS-700.A: National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction by November 1, 2014 or obtain within 30 days of placement in role whichever date is greater.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

  1. Work collaboratively with key Foundation staff stakeholders to develop and operationalize an integrated matrix of solicitation strategies focused on moving donors to increasing levels of giving. Plan, implement, monitor, evaluate and lead the Foundation’s major gift fundraising programs (including restricted, corporate, individual and foundation giving).
  2. Provide strategic direction and short- and long-range planning in the context of growing the annual giving program, while supporting the greater development goals of the Foundation.
  3. Manage a personal portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and donors.
  4. Direct a team of development staff, providing resources, guidance and strategy support necessary to achieve established Foundation goals.
  5. Establish annual development goals, priorities, and metrics to meet growth expectations, evaluate progress toward goals on a regular basis by measuring results against projections and in collaboration with the Finance team, reconcile financials while closing funding gaps.
  6. Ensure development staff carry out all required elements of moves management (qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship) as well as proper documentation.
  7. Oversee management of prospect strategy and research for foundations, corporations, and potential donors to identify new funding opportunities, cultivate and maintain positive relationships with high-capacity supporters.
  8. Work with other Foundation leaders and teams to create and execute compelling cultivation opportunities for prospects and donors.

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, workflows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
  4. Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
  5. Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
  6. Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
