PRIMARY PURPOSE
Conducts specialized examinations in Neurological and Vascular Radiology ensuring that procedures are performed according to PHHS, state, and regulatory standards.
MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
- Must be a graduate of a JCERT Radiology program.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) radiography program.
Experience
- Prefer two years experience in Interventional Radiology, Special Procedures, Hybrid OR, Diagnostic, or other Radiology modality.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Must have an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification.
- Advanced Registry in Vascular Interventional (VI) or Cardiovascular Interventional (CV) preferred.
- Must have a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) certification from Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) or Texas Medical Board.
Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:
- American Heart Association
- American Red Cross Rescuer
- Military Training Network
Skills or Special Abilities
- Must possess a thorough working knowledge of radiologic interventional procedures and knowledge of computer software applications.
- Must be able to demonstrate oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and time management skills.
- Must possess knowledge of specialized equipment and instrumentation such as digital imaging, automatic pressure injectors, procedural supplies, and implantable devices.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of patient assessment and monitoring, contrast administration, medications, asepsis and sterile technique, and emergency care.
Responsibilities
1. Conducts specialized examinations in neurological and vascular radiology in order to provide quality patient care. Accesses and handles selected medications and administer contrast.
2. Prepares patients for examinations and interprets patient histories and physicians¿ orders ensuring that all procedures are performed according to PHHS, state, and regulatory standards.
3. Instructs patients on procedural matters prior to and during examinations to provide optimal information and comfort while effectively completing procedures.
4. Prepares examination rooms, changes linens, prepares IVs, and maintains supplies for special procedures. Operates and maintains equipment including warm-up and calibration of equipment, and provides routine equipment troubleshooting procedures as needed to achieve specific anatomical physiological results.
5. Serves as a lead worker and resource to other staff as needed.
6. Updates patient and procedure logs ensuring the integrity of all maintained information.
7. Processes filmed images onto PACS and/or hard copy and disseminates to appropriate areas providing sufficient patient records according to PHHS policy.
8. Informs and assists physicians and radiologists with patient scheduling, patient transfers, and emergency cases ensuring that all pre-exam procedures are followed including allergic reaction and level tests.
9. Instructs students on the use of specialized equipment to ensure adequate training and improved patient care.
10. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer (internal as well as external) satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of Parkland.
11. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in radiology by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations and maintaining licensure with the State of Texas. Integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job.
12. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the interventional radiology area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
