PRIMARY PURPOSEProvides direct support to pharmacists and pharmacy staff in preparing complex orders, packaging and labeling, tracking inventory, maintaining records, cashiering/payment collections and performing clerical duties. MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONSEducation- High School Diploma or GED Experience- Must have three years of increasingly responsible pharmacy technician experience. Certification/Registration/Licensure- Must be certified by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.- Must have current registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.- Failure to pass examinations or comply with primary requirements will result in termination or the opportunity to apply for a posted non-pharmacy technician position with Parkland. Skills or Special Abilities- Must complete a pre-employment polygraph test.- Must be able to demonstrate an advanced knowledge of a PC, and be able to use word processing, data base and spreadsheet software.- Must be able to pass Pharmacy pre-employment math and spelling test with a minimum score of 80%. - Must know Texas pharmacy laws that relate to a Pharmacy Technician.- Must successfully complete the necessary training requirements to perform cashier duties within 90 days from initial employment.- Must possess advanced knowledge and skills in the operation of equipment used in assigned areas.- Must be able to demonstrate computer skills for areas of responsibility.- Must be able to demonstrate report writing skills.- Must possess advanced knowledge of different types of drugs, medical and health care terminology.- Must be able to perform effectively within the areas of responsibility.Responsibilities 1. Follows established procedures to prepare and distribute medication orders, prescriptions and/or sterile products under pharmacist¿s general supervision. Accurately maintains and replenishes automation systems (if applicable). 2. Operates an electronic cash register while entering correct charges, collecting accurate amounts of money and giving correct change to customers to ensure that payment is received for purchases. 3. Prepares for each shift by obtaining and inserting the correct amount of cash in the appropriate cash register and ensure that the workstation is ready to service customers when the shift begins. 4. Delivers remaining cash receipts and completed/approved reports to the manager, after each shift, while following established policies and procedures to ensure that all monies are secured and accounted for when the shift ends. 5. May be asked to perform prescription order entry into the ambulatory pharmacy system. 6. Assists with the selection, training, motivation, scheduling, and evaluation of Pharmacy Technician I and II¿s to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Responsible for ensuring workflow and productivity of technicians in pharmacy. 7. Responsible for maintaining various records, including inventory, invoices, prescription hardcopies, etc., to ensure that all paperwork is properly kept and that pharmacy services are provided throughout PHHS. 8. Responsible for all pharmacy areas including cleanliness, drug and supply inventory, equipment, simple repairs, etc., to ensure that all pharmacy areas are kept clean, contain the necessary supplies to operate, and are free from obstacles. 9. Participates in departmental committees and specials projects as assigned in order to improve the Pharmacy Department services and overall efficiency in support of the goals of the department and PHHS. 10. Acts as a resource person for non-judgmental pharmacy questions to medical staff, patients, and visitors. 11. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the Pharmacy area, to include cashiering operations. Maintains licensure as a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician. Adheres to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. 12. Adheres to all PHHS procedures and house standards. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in the field of Pharmacy by attending in-services. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Job Accountabilities 1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
