PRIMARY PURPOSE

Operates ultrasound equipment used to produce quality routine to complex diagnostic scans to ensure optimal patient care.

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS Education:

- Must have successfully graduated from an ultrasound program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRCDMS); OR -

Successfully graduated from an ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Experience:

- Must have a minimum of five years of Sonography experience and

- Must achieve six different items from the List of Activities to promote to level III or registered in Fetal Echocardiography from the ARDMS.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

- Must be registered as a Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and registered in the subspecialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology

- RDMS (OB/GYN) and/or registered in the subspecialty of Fetal Echocardiography

- RDMS (FE) with a current active status.

- Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:

  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross Rescuer
  • Military Training Network.

Skills or Special Abilities:

- Must be able to operate various types of ultrasound equipment used in performing procedures.

- Must be able to communicate effectively; written and verbally.

- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of both normal and abnormal anatomy.

- Must be able to demonstrate patient-centered/patient valued behaviors.

- Must be able to utilize and navigate applicable computer systems in order to complete workflows.

List of Activities:

A Sonographer must meet the job description qualifications and achieve six (6) of the items below or is currently registered in Fetal Echocardiography (FE) to achieve the position of Sonographer Level III.

Educational Activities:

-Obtains Continuing Medical Education Credits (CME's) in excess of 30 per triennium and

-Obtains certification in an additional sonography specialty of Fetal Echocardiography.

Professional Activities:

-Serves as guest speaker at an education conference within last 5 years.

-Serves as associate instructor or lecturer in a professional program.

-Serves as officer in a professional organization related to Sonography.

-Participates in the planning/presentation of an educational symposium or conference.

-Serves on hospital or institutional committee at Parkland.

Research Activities:

-Authors or co-authors an article presented at a national conference.

-Publishes an article or case study in a professional journal as author or co-author.

-Participates in research requiring data collection and clinical follow-up.

Clinical Activities:

-Assumes mentor responsibilities for ultrasound students.

-Assumes mentor responsibilities for other medical personnel.

-Assumes mentor responsibilities for other employees.

-Develops a project which improves health care delivery at Parkland.
