Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates and verify image quality according to PHHS standards to ensure images meet quality expectations. Maintains required quality expectations compiled through department metrics reported on a regular basis.
  • Identifies, distinguishes, and documents normal and abnormal anatomy throughout the body. Reviews anatomy quality metrics and other department metrics at the frequency set by department management. Accesses and handles selected medications.
  • Follows department protocols for image acquisition, labeling and documentation.
  • Maintains and performs intermediate troubleshooting of ultrasound equipment and informs supervisor as needed to ensure maximum availability of operable equipment. Ensures broken equipment is taken out of service.
  • Inspects, cleans, and prepares exam rooms after each patient to ensure the efficiency of patient flow within the area. Follows infection prevention practices and completes any logs or documentation as required.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all data entered into the patient record such as arrival, begin and end exam information. Completes other computerized data entry and charging tasks with correct data to ensure the accuracy of patient records and charges.
  • Identifies achievable initiatives to improve work processes and improve customer (internal as well as external) satisfaction. Formally makes recommendations to supervisor in writing with an implementation plan. Assists in implementing and monitoring as requested by department management. Monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of PHHS.
  • Provides clinical instructions and documentation of instruction for new physicians and fellows in sonography practices and procedures to ensure the competency of all health care providers. Assists residents and new staff in obtaining diagnostic images as necessary, providing documentation as required.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in Sonography by actively participating in professional organizations such as the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (SDMS), the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) or the Society of Vascular Ultrasound (SVU).
  • Attends seminars, workshops and other continuing education events provided by Parkland and independently. Actively participates in online professional development sites such as SonoWorld. Documents changes in practice or performance based on information obtained in independent studies.
  • Attends department meetings or department-sponsored continuing education sessions.
  • Provides evaluation-related documentation 45 days prior to evaluation to ensure department management has adequate supporting documents necessary for performance evaluation.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship and serves as a resource person for physicians, other sonographers, students, and patients to ensure an efficient flow of patient information and care. Follows departmental and organizational behavioral expectations and has no written warnings, counsels or final warnings within the evaluation period or shows significant improvement in behavior since the corrective action occurred.

  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Sonography area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Typically requires 3 years of prior relevant experience

Degree/License

  • Requires clinical license and/or certification typically obtained through education or vocational training and practical knowledge of team/unit obtained through experience

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed an 18 month allied health education program in ultrasound.
  • Preference will be given to graduates of an ultrasound program accredited by the Joint.

Required Certifications / Licensure

Must hold a vascular technology (RVT) credential from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography OR hold a registered vascular specialist (RVS) credential from Cardiovascular Credentialing International. ¿
