The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an engineering technician in support of design and construction projects for the installation.ResponsibilitiesUsing the full range of drafting techniques, prepares sets of drawings of new or changed facilities, equipment, and systems from engineers sketches, marked up prints, and verbal instructions.Prepares engineering drawings utilizing computer design software. Uses software and associated equipment to prepare sets of drawings of new or changed facilities, equipment, and systems from engineers sketches.Stores, catalogs, maintains, and updates as-built drawings. Maintains copies of all as-built and new designs on computer storage media. Researches original drawings and transcribes information and codes into system.Operates and maintains print reproduction equipment. Sets up reproduction equipment and adjusts controls for proper operation and optimum print quality. Maintains an adequate supply of required reproduction supplies.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsIn order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0802, ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as (1) Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. (2) Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OREducation: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology. ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of symbols, terminology, and accepted standards used in engineering drawings; and of the equipment, facilities, and systems of civil, mechanical, electrical, and architectural engineering disciplines using architectural/graphic design software. Skill in operating and maintaining reproduction machines. Ability to prepare drawings that are neat, accurate, appropriately dimensioned, and logically arranged, utilizing the methods and techniques of drafting. Ability to print neatly and legibly, both freehand and with mechanical lettering devices. Ability to make mathematical computations using standardized tables and formulas. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
